RE: 6 cyl 1967 Pontiac Beaumont Sport Deluxe 2 door

I suspect the build date is most likely correct.

Yes, no disputing the bucket seat cars on non SD models. It's just that A51 meant SD up until somewhere around early Dec and meant bucket seats after the switch to 738.

so no bucket seat non SD cars prior to mid december 1966 ?

I see what you mean. Good point. How did you tell a factory Custom with buckets prior to that?

yes that is the ultimate quetion-

Sport Deluxe trim and custom trim bucket seat cars with 736 vin's rolled out prior to dec 1966 (I believe) yet nothing seems to distingush why one got each trim package

Also, if it is an A51(sports option),   the "sports option was buckets and console.

So, why does it list the console D55 seperate?

I think the whole thing is bogus..........if its legit, this throws a whole lotta ?????s.

So do you not think that it should list the console?

Could you not order a bucket seat column shift car? If so, that would make sense why the console is listed.

Oh, but this is a Feb car. A51 is not Sports Option in Feb, it is bucket seats at that point.

I forgot but I think thats all I've heard was A51 only was 736 with Sports option (came with both seats and console)

A51 D55 736 is Custom (but what if they didn't want a console ?)

738 is Sport Deluxe no matter what

Just looking at the docs for the red SD convert that was advertised recently and they show A51 as buckets, as suspected. July built car.

The sport option before December was only available on the Custom cars acording to the brochure. The sport option made it a Sport Deluxe regardless of engine. Do you think some customs with buckets were not labeled as sport deluxe's ?

Million dollar question Ian.

If someone has one, I'd love to see documents. And by saying that, I am not saying I doubt they exist, it wouldn't shock me in the least.

Senario #1
A51 "sports option"
was the same as saying buckets and console.  That is what the "sports option" included standard.
so in that case, the console D55 would never be listed seperatly on a sports option build sheet.

Senario #2
A51 "bucket seats"
was just bucket seats.
console was a separate extra item

see what i mean

Ok, I want to get this straight!

I highlighted 3 models in black.

Top one is a 73667 that has option A51 only, no D55. Documented as an SD car, presumably before the changeover date to 738 cars.

Second one down is a 73617 and has options A51 and D55 both, and is documented as a Custom with buckets and console.

In theory, once the changeover happened, D55 would appear on a non SD car if the car had buckets and console?

So that would tell us there are now 738 cars being made as of Nov 21st, even though this is not one of them?

Third car is a 73817, so we know it's an SD.

It has A51 and D55 to back up the theory?

I think you are right. There is no bucket seat Custom in the registry prior to 738 SD cars. All bucket seat cars up to 738 are SD cars.

I would say not. The reason I say that is the Dec 6 car is a 738 car. It has A51 and D55 just like the Nov 21 car. I say the Nov 21 car is a Custom with buckets and console because of that similarity in the cowl tag. Based on that, I reason that the first 738 car has already been built because the cowl tags now contain D55.

I can't take credit for this if it is indeed correct assumptions. I think Fred tried to explain this to me earlier on is the 736/738 discussions and it never clicked for me.

I think he says that once D55 appears on a cowl tag, that means 738 cars were being built.

Before that, A51 got you and SD car.

And before that, no bucket seat cars were made that were not SD cars.
