My 68 SD

Here are a few photos of my 68 SD beaumont  ...a little history... i bought the car when i was 16 for $600 dollars, the old greek guy I bought it from insisted on $1000 dollars but it was in pretty rough shape. He kept telling me the hood alone was worth more than I was paying for the whole car! I told him 6 bills take it or leave it...and i brought her home...along with half his silverware.(it was his son's car, stashed in through the backseat i found 9 burnt butterknives..lol)anyways...spent two years on a restore, replaced 1/4 panels, rockers, bottoms of front fenders etc. It did not have the original 396 or 4 speed the car came with no so we built a mild 350 for it and installed a turbo 350. being young and foolish and not really realizing what I had I drove the snot out of it...spent way too much time street racing and blew the engine out of it. Rebuilt the 350 with a few more ponies and did'nt learn my lessons and blew it up again...The car now sits with a 383 stroker with no miles on it and a 700 r4. Then the unthinkable happened and I got married, became a step father and had one child of my own and now ten years later she is need of her second resto...no Sad really...I love this car almost as much as I love my kids...she is a real close second, the wife comes third...lol Anyways hoping to locate a 396 and a muncie 4 speed...but if that fails may look at putting in a tremec  5 speed...I really think my wife is sick f listening to me whine every nice day that "I wish my car was done, could be driving her now" starting the second resto this spring, complete frame off, redoing everything from rubber to roof.!beau.jpgIMG_0002.jpg

Nice looking ride and a great story, thanks for posting. I think they only made 720 68 SD,  it is a rare car. If only you had the 396.

DSC00014.JPG68sds.jpgWelcome Trevor,, I'm here in PA, my 68 SD was sold new at REGINA MOTOR PRODUCTS, Ermine White. Have you done the GM of Canada paper work on your car?

Good luck with the hunt for the BBC stuff, I had more trouble finding pulleys and brackets for mine than a 396 turned 427. Mine too had lost the 396 before I got it.

I now know of 4 68 SD in Sask,, 1 of which has the original engine.

I do have the paperwork from GM of canada and will post it in a couples of hours when i dig it up....as far as the big block pulleys and brackets I should be alright in that area... My father has a 69 chevelle with a 427 and is a parts collector( i mean he doesn't throw stuff away..lol..) he just doesn't have the big  block.. i might end up stealing his while he is at work...he would never know it was me biggrin As far as the cragars go I was never a fan of them but they were cheap at the time and all i could afford at the time!
I have not seen another 68SD in Sask, I have seen a few 67's and a couple of 68 2 door coupes that were done real nice!Aways lookin though

you may have seen another blue 68 SD 'tribute' car at the Regina shows the last couple of years. It is a painted a blue color with silver pontiac ralleys.

yours is now the 4th I know of.

Love your story,, glad you hung onto it.

I've told my story before,, I bought mine for less than I car to say when I was 18 with no drivetrain. needed 1/4's . roughed on the body with glass and filler , added drivetrain , drove the snot outta 2 engines...then sold it for $2850 around 1989.

Started chatting with a guy about his 69 GTO at a car show in 2005 , he had just bought a SD . after some Q's it sure sounded like my old car 100 miles away. turned out it was , and 3 months later I brought it home . been collecting all the right parts ever since...

If you're still interested in going fast every now and again... i'd go with a 454, looks the same as a 396... nice car!! have fun with getting up and running and cruising again! the small block pullys cross over, and the brackets for a factory set up are all cheap for reproductions, and the remote p.s. pump is very similar to one off of a dodge caravan... easy swap!

what year Caravan please... I have the reservior, just need the pump. I've noticed in the last year that all the brackets are being reproduced. the lower alt. and power steering ones where a long time coming, but a now readily available.

I have a correct date code and cast 396 , not born to the car. That was going in , but then I happened into a well built 427, I have no experience with the 427 , will it pull the way legends say??

I currently run a mild 454 in my 33 coupe, LOVE IT !! but I don't push it much past 5500 RPM.
