Believe it or Not

My son went for his G license today, been waiting since July when the examiners went on strike. Any way the earliest he could go after the strike settled was today and in Barrie ON.

He drove our 93 Fleetwood up to Barrie from Toronto and took the Test. The G is the last rung in the G1, G2, G ladder and you have to be able to drive on the highway. As many of you know his summer job is provincial Parks Warden so he has been driving Police equipped vehicles in emergency and pursuit situations for the past two summers. Great province we live in, just another tax grab, $75 to be exact.

Hillar would love this. half way through the test a Black and White OPP pulls up beside him, hits the lights and pulls him over. Licesne, insurance , ownership please. Ryan is smart enough not toask anything. The examiner actually had his license. Two minutes pass and the OPP officer returns and says thank you and Good Luck on your test.

Ryan finsihed the test and PASSES! He asked the examiner why he might have been pulled over - NO idea. So he passess while being pulled over in a traffic stop and nobody knows why. CRAZY EH!

Good stuff. It's quite nerve wrecking as to whether or not they will fail/pass you.

I just got my G Last Monday, I booked it right away after the strike at Oakville. I brought the P71. He made me do everything with that car.

Did he make Ryan parallel park the Caddy?

Just got in from hockey game so Ryan and I had a chance to chat on the way home, (Ryan coaches with me & yes my guys won 7-2)

I got it wrong it was a Barrie City Police unmarked Black Charger, grille lights, mirror lights who followed him onto Hwy 400.  Anyway it's all good.

Yes he did have to parallel park that mamouth 20 footer plus everything else in the book just like you Mike.

Ryan said at first he thought it was one of his buddies pulling a joke on him because his Park is just north of Barrie at Penetang and he knows a few of the boys up there and lets face it a 1993 Gold Fleetwwod in top condition sort of stands out so he'd be easy to spot.

Like Carl says quite a yarn to tell. biggrin

Haha, that's a great story Ray! Certainly one for his kids and grandkids.

I know a guy (CP member none the less) who I believe got pulled over hours after getting his license because he was powershifting a 396 4 speed Beaumont!!! He shall remain unidentified though (cough cough 67sd396 cough cough) to protect the innocent....

Funny thing is, I happen to know a guy off the Impala SS forum who does (or did until recently) installation of the emergency equipment on the Barrie police cars!

That's too good Carl, Barrie has a lot of Chargers, still could be OPP too because I've seen that an all black one prowling the 400, but since he followed him onto the Hwy. I figure Barrie City police. Ask the guy you know if they run all black Chargers.

Is it possible that there was a "open" ALL POINTS BULLETIN

on that Caddy from summer? when Dad went flying by Barrie confuse

my money is on they knew who it was.

anyway it would be a good thing to do to someone getting their license to see how they react.

I don't drive the Fleetwood, Ryan had it up there from May to September. When he sent me a text I figured it was the guys pulling one on him but he says he didn't know the officer albeit he said he was a young guy not much older than himself. I think we just have to write this one off to Who Knows???? unless Ryan's not telling me something BUT I asked to see his test paper and his G and he produced it!! Says PASSED.

I already emailed him!

It couldn't have been him though because he's 40ish.

should recommend this as part of random tests-how someone reacts to a situation like this can be more important than what he/she actually does during the whole exam.

I know a guy who went through a stop sign during his test (hidden by a tree) the instructor told him he was pleased with how he handled the vehicle at the last minute realizing there was a four way stop and that he was being tested for his driver's licensed-he passed.

A lot of people are very nervous when pulled by the police - how someone would react is important.

My wife thinks it was a set up too. Anyway Jr. deported himself properly, I mean he has been trained to do traffic stops so he was polite and cooperative. It all worked out but you are right Ken, how many people just freak out and do somethng bad when they see the lights, see it almost everyday here in TO.

There is a driver training & testing center about 5 minutes from where I live. Last summer I saw a driver training Corolla get pulled over by an angry cop. The instructor was getting what for. I wish I had my camera with me.

Also out of that center, one of the driver training Corollas has a sign on the back that says 'Student driver - please be patience'. Do you see anything wrong with that statement?

I had a driving instructor with a Yaris come into the dealership a week ago. His ABS light was on. When we checked it out and told him it needed a $400 wheel speed sensor he asked if we could "disable the warning light".
no

Cam are you near the Lawrence/Vic Park centre?

I think I would rather be patient. It's only English, we don't really require this skill anymore in Toronto cry
