$2,000 fine for squealing tires

COBOURG Back on Aug. 11, Cobourg Police charged a 20-year-old Cobourg man with stunt driving by losing tire traction with surface of highway.

The charge was laid when police observed the man squeal the tires on a Chevrolet van while travelling through the entire intersection of Division and King Streets.

The charge was laid because police believed the driver was displaying disregard and carelessness for public safety. In this particular case, there were pedestrians and other motor vehicles in the area. Also, at the time of the offence, police seized the man's driver's licence for seven days and impounded the vehicle for seven days.

At court on Jan. 20 in Cobourg, the accused was found guilty of stunt driving and fined $2,000.

When the Toronto cops got me, it was a ticket for excessive noise.

I got caught for spinning my tires in 1987. 50 bucks and the fine was for "unnecessary noise"

Maybe an online petition about this law needs to happen..

Well I got stopped in my Dad's '76 Grand LeMans, had snows on it too back then. Rally II wheels if it matters, nice car. I was maybe 19. Officer was pretty cool gave me a warning said that on dry pavement snows had less traction so to be careful otherwise if he saw me doing it again he'd call my Dad and tell him how I was driving.

Oh the good old days, where did we go wrong? and that was in Toronto too.

OK, so, does this mean that when my Catalina shifts into 2nd gear & "chirps" the tires IT"S STUNT DRIVING!!! Guess the shift kit coming out???
