I got the latest Astro Flash Newsletter today, congratulations on another masterful job Raymond! I especially enjoyed the nice memorial dedicated to Hillar, most appropriate. He would be proud.

Since I have been negligent in joining (I still will) is there I could see that somehow? Not sure if it is appropriate for you to scan and post it though.

Hopefully that works.

Oh, the former parts manager is out for a doc appointment till about noon Morris time! See if we can find out why this cough has lasted 4 months and shows no sign of letting up.

I hear the editor won't try until after 2:15 pm Toronto time, He has Rotary Club luncheon on Thursdays I am told.

Here it is

In Memoriam

Hillar Jaan Pinna
02-23-1959 ~ 01-08-2010

Nov21[1]_ 024a.jpg

With sadness we announce that Hillar Pinna passed away suddenly on January 8, 2010 while at his home. Hillar was in his 51st year. Hillar has been a member of POCI for over 20 years, he regularly attended each POCI convention, Woodward and the Pure Stock drag races each year plus countless swaps and events in both Canada and the USA. Hillar had a wide circle of friends in the Pontiac Community and he was a Charter member of the Canadian Pontiac Specialty Chapter of POCI.

Hillar enjoyed collecting parts and literature as well as acquiring cars he could work on as projects. He was often the brunt of jokes about not being able to drive his treasures but he took it all in good fun and promised us all that someday they would all be back on the road and machines of glory. He had a passion for Canadian Pontiacs in particular.

Hillar was anxiously awaiting spring when the plan was to get one of his Pontiacs roadworthy and race ready for the Pure Stocks later in the summer. He was a good friend and font of knowledge on all things Pontiac. He will be missed greatly on both sides of the border.

If Hillar could send us a message, I bet it would be, "Have you all been seeing your doctors on a regular basis?"

A 57-year-old truck driver I know had a heart attack on the 401 two days ago. He drinks and smokes too much and rarely goes for checkups. Now, he's flat on his back and has lost his licence (and income) for at least 3 months.

Most of the rest of our local group don't bother with doctors either.....at least until now. Hopefully, they're re-thinking.

When was your last full medical checkup? We can't afford any more losses around here.

We had a young lad from work catch some bug that got into his chest and have a heart attack 2 weeks ago. i'm talking 28 and this guy was one of those that was conscious of this diet and exercised regular. they said no permanent damage but it makes you think.

also on another note, got my Astro flash today but i don't count cause i'm one of them folks that only check my super box when i feel like it.

nod.gif I agree with the seeing the doctor!!   I was there last week, and went for blood test and paid 30.00 for the PSA test..   last visits blood test were great.....

We all hate to go, but with todays technology, it best, to get a step up, on any problems... You take anal car of your car, and  This old body we have, is the only vehicle to get us on. in this world...

I started having a physical every second year since I turned 40. My wife suggested (strongly) that I do that. Not sure why because I'm worth a lot more to her if I'm gone.....!

Seriously, I'm not one of those tough guys who doesn't need a doctor/never gets sick. I am sorry if I offend you if you happen to be that type but I've never understood that type of thinking. It's not a sign of weak man if he does his best to stay healthy.

Besides, my dad worked outside, physical labour from spring till fall (we had a tree nursery), kept in good shape, non smoker, non drinker, lasted 2 hours after his heart attack at 62. If I can avoid issues leading up to an early death by getting checked, why not do it?

I had mine a couple of weeks ago. Doctor sent me for blood tests & X-rays [smoker] then for the "ol scope"check last week. The day before the test is the worst [if you know what I mean] lost 10lbs. that day so far everything is OK, doc, said if I don't get a call, don't worry, so far no call!!!!

My dad had colon cancer at age 30. He survived it but you can imagine what the surgery was like back then (1970). Because he had it so young I get scoped every 3 years. I started at age 28 and had a polyp removed at that time. The polyps are what usually turn to cancer. Personally with the diets we all have I'd recommend getting checked in your mid 40s'.
One of my co workers lost his uncle to colon cancer. Its a silent killer as there are no nerve endings and hence no pain. The only sign his uncle had were his bowel movements were the size of pencils-due to the tumor obstructing the bowel. If you are one of those guys who is holding off on having the scope because you are embarrassed you need to grow up. Same with you guys who never go for prostate inspections. Like they say, "Don't die from embarrassment!"

Hey guys take care of yourselves. A friend of mine used to get checked yearly when he had his AZ lic. but gave up driving 4 years ago, and just found out he has level 3 prostate cancer.
Hasn't been checked in 4 years and that's how fast this can spread in the body. Scary but true so none of us like the old check but it.s better than the alternative.

Agreed. I told someone the other day I get checked every two years. They said they could never let a doc shove his hand up there. I said consider the other option, this seems pretty good actually.

I have been going to the doctors every three months since my heart attack two years ago and a prostate check once a year. My cholesterol level has been dropping with every visit. I do not want to plug up those stents they put in me.
