This is a gorgeous 1968 Chevy SS427 big block. Body and interior is all original. The motor was replaced years ago, but replaced with identical motor. Non numbers matching. Standard transmission replaced app. 20 yrs. ago with automatic and Hurst shifter. The rest is original. Body color is beautiful pearl. Does have 2 small primer spots on hood. Owner was a paint and body professional, but due to health problems, never got to painting them. Car does have AC and works. Body is in excellent condition. This is a three owner car with the 1st and 3rd being the same person. Car has been sitting in the owners shop. Only drove it maybe twice a year the past several years due to health. Only 1,778 rolled off the line in 1968 making this a very rare collectable muscle car. Cash payment and buyer will pick up.

Was your 69 SS427 built in Oshawa or St.Therese???

Was your 69 built for Canadian sale???

Basically you could get a few different production #'s from GM.

They have a production number for Canadian built cars for Canadian sale.

They also have a production number for Canadian built cars for U.S. sale.

This car for sale was built in St Therese which built many cars for U.S. export, so most likely this is a Canadian built 69 SS427 for U.S. sale.

I remember looking at a 69 427 4 speed bench seat, silver on red impala in mapleridge in the early 1990's. He wanted 10,000$ but it needed quarters, etc.... Wonder what happened to it? Anyone know of it?

Another thing about these 67-69 SS427 cars is that no one factors in the Canadian built 67-69 SS427 cars for U.S. sale into the production #'s.

Basically everyone says in 67 there were only 2,124 67 SS427's made. Which is true as they produced only this # in the U.S. But GM of Canada built 40 67 SS427's at Oshawa for U.S. export (sale). So there were really 2,164 67 SS427's built for sale in the U.S., also if St.Therese built any for export too??

 Who knows about 68's etc.confuse

This yellow Biscayne was for sale by original owner back in 2002 for $22K. I was interested in it then but was in hospital at the time with a broken back so I didn't make a move on it. It changed hands from the second owner about a year and a half ago in the low $40s.

IT WAS BUILT IN ST.THERESE FOR CANADIAN SALE. I HAVE SEEN THE INFO ON ANOTHER CAR THAT SAID 148 COUPES AND CONVERTIBLES W/Z-24. THAT ONE WAS ST.THERESE AS WELL.

The first Impala SS427 I remember was when I was young and growing up in Ancaster, Ontario. Around 1971 I saw a 1969 Impala SS427 Custom Coupe, Cortez Silver with red bucket seat interior.. It had redline tires, 15x6 Rally Wheels (stock size), F41 suspension with a rear stabilizer bar, an L36 and a TH400 in the console. I would see the car sporadically for the next few years. The last time I saw the car it was getting an engine rebuild in 1977 at a service station (remember those?). The service station was none other than Dideros Texaco with a bunch of well equipped bays. Didero owns a racing team now, Texaco is gone and the station is now an Esso on-the-run convenience store without any bays or mechanics.

In 1980 I saw my second sighting of a 1969 Impala SS427. It was a Frost Green convertible with a black top (& black interior I think). It was a 1-time sighting at The Old Mill Restaurant in Ancaster.

I was driving to work at Eli Lilly Scarborough back in July 1991 when I saw a 1968 Impala convertible parked 2 blocks ahead. I knew where to look for unusual details so I looked at the trunk lid for the nameplate and the rear differential for a sway bar. As I got with a half block I couldnt believe it, there was an SS427 badge on the trunk lid and a read stabilizer bar. As I drove by with traffic I noticed the side louvers, then as I drove past and looked it the mirror I saw the domed hood. I had been looking to see one in person for a long time so naturally I was a little late for work that day. I did have my 35-mm Nikon 2020 with me so I took 3 pictures. The car was parked along the side of Kingston Road. With traffic whizzing by and cars locked in all around it I only managed 3 pictures. When I got the pictures back I was able to see the details. The car is Tripoli Turquioise with a black top & interior (it was a Z03 Super Sport with Z24 SS427). The car had factory tinted glass all around, power windows, AM radio, power rear antenna (mast was replaced with a regular non-power telescopic mast), factory 8-track stereo, Sport Styled Steering Wheel in simulated walnut, remote-controlled outside mirror, F41 suspension, Rally Wheels, TH400, p/s, and factory 4-piston disk brakes.

I saw the car again in 1993 so I pulled into the place where I saw it parked and went over to look at it. The owner came over so I asked him about the car (I was driving my 67 Chevelle so he figured I was a car guy). I looked under the hood and saw that the car was built in St. Thérèse, PQ. I was looking at 1 of 12 Canadian-built 1968 Impala SS427 convertibles! They also made 2 more non-Super Sport Impala convertibles with 427s. Two.

The owner said it was a bit lazy off the mark; I figured it must be running the standard 2.73:1 ratio out back. That guy still currently owns the car and is the third owner. The first owner was a doctor in Gravemhurst, Ontario. His mechanic eventually bought the car from him. That mechanic, who is friends with the mechanic in Scarborough, eventually sold the car to the Scarborough mechanic who is the current owner.

That 68 SS427 convertible would by my ultimate big block desirable Chevy. Beautiful car.

Here is the first 427 SS convertible I have seen and it's a 4 gear to boot.  It is amazing what shows up at cruise nights on Wednesday evenings in Calgary.  This is one of the coolest cars I have seen. The hood is awesome.  Right beside it is a 396 Caprice with the same hood.

The fellow who owns the rag is named Jim and he lives in Calgary. He also has a 427 Caprice he's had for nearly 30 years ( if memory serves it has a domed hood like the 396 shown here). He bought the rag out of Georgia in 2007.

Jim also used to own the 396 Caprice. I looked at it in Calgary in 2003 when it was for sale by the current owner, who did sell it, and who recently (approx last 18 months) bought it back.

Here's a link to a picture of all three cars.  Go about half way down page 1. You will also seee a picture of Mark's 67 Grand Parisienne 4 dr HT at the same link.

Me, I can't figure out how to post the photos so mine are not there yet.

Wow, it is interesting to see that i contributed to the Impala SS427 thread last summer in my absence (I was in Italy in all of August 2009). The picture of the Impala SS427 Custom Coupe take in Barrie in 2004 is mine. It is one of 3 pictures I took of it that day. The link is actually a link to my showroom at Team Chevelle.

A lot of querky things apply to the SS427s, some are 1 year only.

Did you know that in 1969 you could order your Impala with a special molding group, RPO Z21? It replaced the spear type rocker strip with a wide rocker molding from a Caprice, added rear trunk molding (from the Caprice) that went all the way to the fender end caps. It also added an opening molding to the lower grille opening below the bumper (yes, again a Caprice-sourced item).
See this link: http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/showphoto.php/photo/8510/size/big/ppuser/335

I created that blue Impala Sport Coupe SS427 from a 2-page spread of a regular Impala in the 1969 brochure. I added the wheel covers, redlines & wider / taller wheels, scratch-built the rear & rocker moldings, added the 3-D SS emblems and the 427 emblem.

Somewhere at Team Chevelle I had posted a picture of a 1968 Caprice coupe with hideaways, 427, light monitoring, disk brakes, Rally Wheels. I had modified that picture into an SS427, blacking out the vertical sections of grille leaving only the hoizontal parts, widened the tires ever so slightly, narrowed the tire stripes (like the G70-15s would appear), plus I added a rear stabilizer bar.

You know, for all you hideaway headlight lovers, it would have been easy back in 1968 to walk into a Pontiac dealer and order a brand new Grande Parisienne coupe with a 427, 4-speed, F41, Positraction, Rally Wheels, disk brakes. I wonder if any actually did? I have read that that only 13 Grande Paisiennes came with the 427 that year. The only one I know of has a TH400 & drum brakes (Tripoli Turquoise with black vinyl roof). It was featured in the defunct Canadian Classics magazine a bunch of years back. I think that issue also showed a 1968 Pontiac 2+2 convertible, factory 427 4-speed that was a project car.

I've gotta go for now. Maybe I can weigh in later with more.
