New Televisions

I'm in the market for a new TV and yet the more I look the more confused I get. What tv do you have? Why did you get what you got?

I am thinking of a 50" Plasma. I have a 32" CRT currently.

Thanks

Who can keep up?

I got a 36" flatscreen in 2003 it's a Sharp - $1,400 - been flawless. Peter Mansbridge looks like he's in our family room when the news is on...I'm happy BUT  now everybody is wanting the 50"+ plasma.

Why don't you get the biggest darn plasma you can get with killer sound system, can it be installed for next week's Daytona 500??? Pretty Please.....

Plasmas dont last as long per hour and once they are shot they are shot. I bought a Samsung 1080 dp ( there's a lot of 1080 rated LCD TV's out there now ), it has the best picture I have ever seen and its a projection not a Plasma. The plasma is not good either if you have a lot of windows and natural light in the room

Take some time for research, gentlemen, as two new trains are coming down the track.

- 3D TV

- 'Connected' TV (broadband-enabled TV)

Being in the film business I know 3D on a regularr scale is still years away. As for braodband I'd have to get a computer or at least the internet to my house first.

Heck, our tv still has a picture tube! All these new sets will be obsolete when the 3d sets come out. However, a good friend of mine is an electronics geek and always does his homework before buying and he loves his Sony Bravia 52" LCD set. He bought his at Sears a few months ago with a 1000 watt surround sound system for under a grand!

ive got a 42" sony plasma wega somethin somethin ( my wife wanted it) that was "the best" on the market when the plasmas came out, we bought it as it was last years floor model (this was 4 yrs ago) and we love it for movies with the surround and all that fun stuff. Now, I dont play or even have video games but i heard thier not good for plasmas.

I personally think it all comes down to the size of the room and what you use it for and above all what you are pluging into it, for example... mine looks great watching movies through the blue ray, but we also just have basic cable, so the picture quality is crap, fuzzy on higher chanels. And really, do we need to see everything crystal clear? So clear that you see the persons blackhead pimples on their noses? LOL!

Can never be too big! Kinda like can never have too much power!! as 1965cs said, if you have lots of natural light in the room stay away from plasma and go lcd... I have a sony wega 50" lcd... i like it! I barely ever watch tv though, and don't play any games...

52" Samsung Plasma. 1080p. AWESOME picture! I had a LCD before. This plasma blows it away.
But that's when it was on sale (and before I knew my car needed more work).

I've got a softcopy of the Consumers comparison. I'll try to find it and post it later today. (Bang for the buck, Toshiba's have been amoungst the top lately.)

Good point Geoff, I buy a lot of Toshiba computers, especially lap tops, they make a very good product in all areas of consumer goods and I have to think that lap top screen technology is similar if not the same as TV screens.
