Great Day at Olympics - Opening ceremonies

Can't believe no one has posted on the opening ceremonies yet. In a word they were awesome. Very pround to be Canadian and witness that spectacle of sight, sound, emotion and celebration.  K D Lang brought the ceremony to a standstill, when, surrounded by gold lights, she gave a heartfelt, sublime rendition of Hallelujah. Because the full video is copyrighted, footage of Lang singing Hallelujah is impossible to find but I'll post a version of it.

Written and released back in 1984 by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen. Lang's version of Cohen's haunting Hallelujah is amazing, with Cohen himself admitting that her version is the song's "ultimate blissful state of perfection.

Other then the one tower not coming up at the end it was great. I did feel sorry for the Great One riding in the back of the truck with all the rain .

A very close second to K D Lang, an in fact the top performance up until Lang brought the house to a standstill was Sarah McLachlan's Ordinary Miracle. Olympic people are keeping these performances under wraps but I found two stills and the regular release of the song.

We sure are fortunate to have stars like Sarah. There was a lot of talented Canadian with her. After the traditional parade of nations, Bryan Adams and Nelly Furtado performed a song written as a tribute to the Vancouver Olympic athletes. The song, called 'Bang the Drum' was co-written by Adams and performed as Aboriginal dancers from the cultural portion of the Opening Ceremony surrounded the stage.

A family next door went and said it just dragged on.  My wife and son are at the Hockey game tonight. Wow 7 goals in the first.

I watched all of the opening ceremonies and was quite impressed by the show and it made me feel proud to be a Canadian. It must have been something to be there and see it.

I watched it last night as well, was an awsum show except for the one pillar that did not rise. More modern technology at work. I was also impressed with the comment about the luger accident casaulity.
