68 SD trim tag and pics ( a friends )

funny story , the SD I have , I bought from this owner of this one,  we became good friends , and now he found and bought another one,,, I told him I'd trade him back , I like the color of his better !! LOL

NOW we have a question , what can a person use for the SD trim??  I had heard , read that 67 Impala SS was real close?? ( most likely got that from this site)

any insight??

how do you translate the tag to know it's a L35 car? or is that a given with a SD? IF it was a L34 ? would it be stamped??

just curious??

the tag says YY and the D99 is for roof to 1/4 mouldings, so the car would have been a solid Butternut, but still had the mouldings to break up the paint? is that corect? vinyl roof was added later?

What codes on the cowl tag dictate the 396?

All 68 SDs came with a 396. They were either 325 or 350 hp engines. The 738 tells that it is a SD.

I think it's 65 Impalas, John Nelson will know.

I thought there was a guy reproducing 68 SD trim now?

I don't think he has reproduced the 68 SD trim yet. I believe he needs a set for the patterns.

I sent my 68 SD trim to a friend out in Ontario to have DT stainless reproduce it-haven't got a price quote yet-but I am pretty sure it will be a healthy one.But what are you supposed to do-because when you weld aluminum it will be a different color than the rest of the aluminum,so when it gets anodized or OEM brite coated it will stick out like a sore thumb.66 Caprice side body mouldings are the same contour as 68sd side trim.My original trim is pretty beat up so I am going to try and get a stainless set priced out-hopefully it isn't too crazy priced-although there are 16 pieces that need to be made-OUCH!

He doesn't have the full set either. I'm missing all for mine, and the studs had been ground off already when I got it in 88 . I will ask him next time I see him.
