Hillar's father, Harald Pinna, his mother, Vilma Appleby and Hillar's sister, Sandra Halkidis and her husband George along with their 3 children, are all planning to attend this function and they would love to see as many of Hillar's friends as are able to be here.
There will be a cash bar (although maybe a drink or two on Hillar's tab as well) and The Pilot will be providing appetizers throughout the evening. Everyone will also be able to order additional food from our menu.
I would like to go but there are no deals on flights to Toronto so I'll stay home and tip a few in Hillars memory on the 4th. He had a few Molson EX with us at Barrie so that's what I'll have.
Mary and I went to the Pilot tonight, met 65camino there too. We had a nice evening mingling and speaking with Hillar's friends and family. In the Stealth Lounge they have a huge screen. People sent in digital photos of Hillar and good times and a slide show played all night. I made several contributions including photos of his cars. There were really no car people there other than aforementioned.
The highlight was a CITY TV sports reel from about 3 or 4 years ago. For 25 years the Pilot has been holding a "What's wrong with the Leafs Lunch". Catherine Humphreys featured the tavern and Hillar spewing his pearls on the Leafs. It was priceless.
Food was good and drinks were plentiful. It was a no cost night, I hear Hillar picked up the tab .
Glad to hear a good time was had Ray. Sorry I couldn't make it, it's hard to get to the Big Smoke on a weeknite for me. Maybe I'll make it to Pilot Tavern in May when I'm in town for work and hoist a cold one in his honour.
Listen fellas, no problem in not attending, don't give it another thought. My house is 15 minutes from the tavern. Yesterday however I picked up Mary at 5:30, got to Yonge and Bloor in 10 minutes and waited in traffic for 35 minutes to basically go around the corner to Cumberland, park and walk into the tavern. For those of you who don't live near or in Toronto you have no idea what rush hour traffic is, especially in that area. So all told it was 50 minutes walking in the door. Mary said we could have walked in half the time, and she'd be right.
PS. Al Stuart is the Manager, tell Al you are a friend of Hillar's and I'm sure Hillar will pick up the tab.
