March 2010 Feature Car

I've always had a fondness for station wagons. Unfortunately there are few surviving Canadian Pontiac, Acadian and Beaumont examples (which explains why we've only featured one other wagon!). Chris Newport happens to be one lucky fellow. He owns this month's feature car: A gorgeous 66 Acadian Invader wagon with a few tasteful modifications with my favorite being the 4 speed conversion! Chris tells us the rest:

My car is a 1966 Acadian Invader station wagon. To begin the story on my car, we start back in 1998.  I had just started a restoration on a 1967 chevy ii wagon when I spotted the Acadian at a small mechanic's lot.  By the time I had a chance to check it out; it was gone.  I knew the car, as a friend had brought it back from out west in '88.  Any way a kid in my neighbourhood was pestering me to sell him the '67 wagon.  So, it get's sold in '99 and I started the hunt for another wagon.  Forward to 2000, I'm at work and a buddy show's me an ad for a 1966 Pontiac wagon, it was a very brief ad.  I called that evening and the women described the wagon as being a small wagon.  I asked her if by chance it was red and she said yes.  I said by any chance is the interior red as well and she said how did I know? Intuition told me I had found the Acadian. The same night I bought the Acadian.

In June, I brought her home, after it had been safetied.  The Mrs & I cleaned her up, inside and out, put on a nice set of rally rims and we put a 4 speed in it that my wife was kind enough to buy for me.

In 2003, I put a 283 punched out to a 292, into the wagon.  Slowly over the years I've been refining my baby.  In 2005, a new cowl hood went onto her, which was a birthday gift from my wife.  Ain't she sweet?  After that, the whole front end was rebuilt.  In 2006, me, and ARCADIAN and our wives, took a trip down to the Nova Nationals in Maryland and the cars were well received.  Since than, we have been enjoying our car.

Chris

Sweet! A 283 with a 4-speed in a nimble car, doesn't get much better! Nicer yet with the .060" overbore!

Would be nice to see a driver's view of the dash - looks like maybe radio delete? And how about gauges, I see a couple under the dash and a big tach on top of the column, but in the dash?

Very nice ! I really think wagons are so practical and now so very rare especially an Acadian. Congratulations on the job well done with the 283/ 4 speed combination.

Very cool car. Looks great in red, and the 4 speed tops it off nicely.

Another great example of a Canadian Poncho for a feature car Todd!

I'd say you married a keeper if she buys you 4 speeds and hoods!

THANK YOU ! It's nice to be complimented buy fellow Poncho site members. I did forget to mention that other than the hood the paint was laid on in 1989. As for my wife,i'll keep her as she enjoys the car as much as I do.

Very nice wagon. I'm very jealous.

i was going to say invader for the flank script. because i had stripped a 65 wagon recently but i checked the parts book and it shows the invader on the front fender for 66.
