Has anyone had a car redistripped? Doing the driveway stripping job is not all that apealling to me.Have a redi stip place in delta, but am unsure of how well the stripper they use gets out of cracks and seams.Would hate to lay down new paint to watch it flake off.Cost is a bit of an issue, but if it works good it may be worth it to me. Anyone tried it?
well i know what you are saying when it comes to stripping cars, its not pretty. My buddy took a 68 camaro to redistrip and i think it was 1300 for the stripping car was disassembled.MAN EVERYTHING was stripped. My bodyman buddy who did the car said it was hard to get epoxy primer in all the areas it was stripped so good it looked great, must epoxy fast.Pros and Cons I say kinda pricey but wwwhooolllaa!
No, but I used Gemblasters out of Chilliwack for my entire body, frame, rear end, etc. There is no warping to the body panels as the gems do not create heat. go to the site and check them out or you can watch the boring video of my car by going to google search 73 gto restoration. I was quite pleased.
1300 for redistrip mmmmm...kinda pricey, but I do like the idea.Gemblasters looks pretty good,as they prime it too.I think I am going to drive out to the 'wack and check them out.Do you mind me asking what they charged you GTOGUY73?
i have done a few cars at redistrip ,the last car i did was a 68 sd 396 beaumont, i did the frame and all sheet medal, im sure it was a lot more than $1300 but after it was pickled witch means nuetrilized from the acid i had all parts fosfaited as well, i think its ok if your car is real rusty but having it blasted is cheeper and its fine just watch your tags such as the fire wall tag, my buddy left his tags on the car and the guy in the wack nere the freeway that was doing the blasting hit the tag and wipped it out so sad for sure, my 68 sd beaumont turned out nice and i have had no troubles with acid bleeding , since i have my own sand blasting machine and do all my own stuff now.
Just got back from the wack, the guy is pretty closed mouth about what he uses, but he figures under about 1500 - 1700 to blast, clean and prime the body and satin black the bottom. Does not sound too bad, considering what a pain it is to paint the bottom.Uses something called "Bullet Proof" warranties it not to peel or chip for ten years. He has been around for 15, so I think I am leaning that way.If I redi strip it I was going to powder coat the shell, but too much moola I think.

All costs for gemblasting and priming including taxes about $3600. Had everything done. Outer Body and interior, Fenders, Frame, Rad Support, Inner Fenderwells, Hood, Trunklid, Rearend, Sway Bars, Driveshaft, Cylinder Heads, Long Bumper Mounting Brackets, Front Nose, etc.. Pretty much everything on the car was done at Gemblasters that I could not get into a 4 ft x 3 ft glass beading cabinet. I thought the price was reasonable. Some may beg to differ, however, it needed to be done for the extent that I was going with the car.
This is the video of my actual car. It gives you a pretty good idea of how extensive Gemblasters goes for prepping the car before primering.
