350 Vortec Timing Chain Cover

Is there a replacement gasket set available for the above cover including the o rings or seals that go into the cover where the bolts install to fasten it to the block. The cover has printing that states the cover must be replaced when removed but there is nothing wrong with my cover.

Thanks Al

Al, my was just rebuilt, here it is on the stand, that's a new gasket there for sure. I am 100% certain that I did not get a new cover so teh gasket set has to be available.

98 Vortec 350 timing cover

Whats up with the Vortec 350's and the replace the timing cover deal ? I just tore apart my old engine that expired and on the plastic cover it says "Replace assembly upon removal" , the new rebuilt I bought has no seal or gasket for it , everything else is there . Do you really have to but a new one ? I would think I could use a gasket maker type of sealant so it wont leak , but I would hate to put it all together and have it fail. What have you all done in this case ?

Unfortunately, you do. The seal is non replaceable, and the cover isn't really all that expensive. Dorman makes one, or you can grab one from a dealer.

Must have been included in  the rebuild price then because I have no invoice for any timing cover. It is plastic however and it will break down with oil and heat.

On mine the seal was leaking as someone has installed a sleeve on the harmonic dampner and damaged the seal upon installation. I also damaged the o rings by letting the cover sit in my varsol tank and the varsol eat the  o-rings. I was thinking by now some company would have made an aftermarket seal and o ring kit. I will check on an aftermarket Dorman kit and a new GM.

Thanks Al

Dorman  $35.19  my cost for a new cover with seal and O Rings. I guess new is the way to go as no seal is available yet.

Al
