Did ya know..

the old VW Kombi is still being built in Brazil? VW Brazil is celebrating 50 years of production. Sorry, no airbags or abs or traction control..
I want one for some stupid reason no
Can you imagine if GM  (or Ford or Chrysler) kept one model going without changes for 50 years? I'll take a 2010 Pontiac Catalina with the 4 speed and tri power 389..

I bet those stamping dies are getting pretty worn!

Oh, by the way, that's a rad up front- the "modern" version is water cooled. Now that I know that I don't want one anymore..

And I think I'm gonna wait 2 years for the 2012 Grand Prix Super Duty 421 to come out. Since they only made 16 of them 50 years ago, with gas prices what they are today it should be even less popular this time around. I'll own an ever rarer car...

Here's a cool Brazilian 1981 Ford Galaxie. Sheetmetal look familiar? Most of it is from the North American 65 Galaxie!

Here's an early 80's Falcon from Argentina using mostly '63 sheetmetal:

Other than the Beaumont being built in Chile in 1970, does anyone know if any other vehicle was built in South America using old North American designs?

I remember being in Mexico in 1977 with the high school trip and it seems to me the Chevy pickups had some oddities in sheetmetal. Was it maybe an pickup box that was a generation older than the cab or something like that? Not quite sure.

South America is absolutely loaded with Chevy's and Fords, lots of older and interesting models. Old late 70's and 80's Dodge vans are popular too for some reason. Brazil actually has some real decent highways, of course I 've only been in Sao Paulo. Bolivia is stoked with old North American iron, I even saw a 76 Pontiac hearse on my last visit. I will have to remember to take photos next time I go. That Chevy Kommando that Johann has is everywhere down there.

Mexico made 72 chevy II well into the 80's maybe longer. My aunt Triny came back from visiting family with a shiny new 84.
