VERY RARE 1966 GTO CONVERTIBLE, THERE IS A VIN TAG ON THE FIREWALL THAT STATES THE FOLLOWING: FIRST 1966 GTO PRODUCED IN THE HONOR OF JAMES M. ROCHE

I TRIED VERY HARD TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS THE FIRST 1966 GTO PRODUCED IN THE HONOR OF ABOVE STATED VIN TAG, BUT KNOWONE COULD HELP, EVERYONE THAT SAW THIS CAR & VIN TAG, THEY CANNOT BELIEVE THERE EYES THAT I HAVE THIS CAR.

THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED FROM A OLD MAN, THAT STORED IN A BARN FOR MANY YEARS WITHOUT SEEING THE SUN FOR YEARS.

all i can say is WoW  (its the first 66 GTO!) i think he thinks it means there are other cars made in honour ,i think its just this one (the first one)


how does the public get ahold of a car like that

is this thing bogus?


the rivits look new and body numbers usually are six digits ie 100001
unless of course they mean the vin # sequence?

the build date on this car is 10A first week of  October 1966 (seems late to be first?)
shipping date is April 1st 1967?


Built Fremont California
R1 is Montero Red with white top
223 is black interior

Maybe that's the reason this ad was pulled... strange that the firewall has layers of paint and repaints and the tags look fresh... could be interesting!

I looked at all the documentation and was scrolling down to post what 68SD said.

I think the car has a "questionable documentation" to say the least. First GTO made in October? That would be a surprise. And why only shipped in April? I could get a tag made with "Made for Grandma" on it if I wanted. You can get pretty much anything you want on there.

Nice looking car but I would order my own set of PHS documents on this one....

I'm with 68SD on this one. Nice aftermarket rivots. The cowl tags look like they just made. The firewall in that condition.....the tags should be as well.
I'd walk from this one

I "tried" to find it ,on the ULTIMATE GTO site     what a mess that is!  I guess we are spoiled, having a site, where you can "find" things   lol

When you go on Ulimate GTO....go down to advanced picture searcher. Then just follow what year,colours, conv and it shows the pictures of this car.
