1964 Pontiac Details Details

Can anyone out there critique the originality of the engine compartment details on this '64 CS?  It's from a factory 300hp 327 car in Victoria. (Which btw,.. I'm told is just as rare as a 409 car) It's been posted elsewhere on CP.

http://victoria.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-custom-sport-W0QQAdIdZ147205368#

The hood hinges look odd in blue for a factory white car.  ?? The alternator is the optional 6.2. I've seen it listed in the Canadian Pontiac shop manual.

not sure about 64, but in 62 , the springs were a similiar color to those. something about GM color coding them?

For the most part it looks correct to me.
Didnt realize that 64s had the blue springs too.
62 did for sure only in canada.

I dont think canadian 63/64 chevys had blue spring tho.

The Delcotron is probably the really really rare high output factory correct.
Cant remember the option code #, but i think it is a 62 amp high output.

I sure would like to find a place repoping that aircleaner stamp/decal.

Any idea if a repo valve cover decals are available?  I've had a few different opinions on the factory valve cover decals for Canadian 283 Pontiacs.  (and most were wrong)
The factory decals simply indicate "Pontiac 283 Pontiac".

You are correct.  The lower pic has the right ones.
Pontiac-283-pontiac.
Air cleaner decal is also correct in these pics.

Try jimosborn reproductions in georgia.  Also online.  Has tones of canadian pontiac decals

I spent a lot of time keeping the archive information correct as possible. Feel free to use it. I have three sources of decals with links there:

A 300 horse will also have the bigger outlets on the exhaust manifolds I think.

I always thought the air cleaners on the pre 67 327's looked older than that? More like this...

I believe that the air cleaner that you have pictured was never used on a Canadian production pontiac.  The Canadian air cleaner had a flat dish lid. (whereas the US production Pontiacs had the the air cleaner which you have shown,... the lid swept downwards to meet the base.)
I have yet to hear a logical reason why GM engineers felt that the Canadian Pontiacs needed a different air cleaner engineered for the great white north.   But,..this design is truly Canadian,. eh!?  biggrin

The pictured Air Cleaner looks exactly like the one on the 64 409/340 car I investigated for everybody, only chrome. I did not take a photo of it unfortunately.

Bruce Levy has them ... that's where I got my correct "Pontiac 283 Pontiac" decals.

The air cleaner lid with the ridges is correct for a Canadian car 409 in '64.

And I believe for the '66 Beaumont with the 327 I believe?  (I ask as mine was always missing, but it shows this style in a photo in the parts book.)
PS  Not trying to hijack the thread.

If you mean Audrey at pontiac 409 he can't find the stamp I've asked.
If I could get a good clear picture I might try to get one made myself.

I was going to suggest Jim Osborne reproductions. I see he's already on Ray's list.
Do believe that Osborne is also the manufacturer and the other guys source from there.
I've bought the " Pontiac 283 Pontiac " form Osborne.

Thanks for all the info and posting pictures.   I'm limiting myself to doing things on the car that don't cost a lot.  Engine compartment detailing is time consuming but it doesn't take much out of the pocket book.  It was great to see that 283 engine bay photo which confirms that the hood springs are blue.

I use to go to car shows and appreciate the exterior of the cars at a glance. These days I tend to look more at the details.  It's really nice to see a bone stock 2bbl engine which has all the proper factory details done.  Small details like correct painting in the engine bay,. (color and sheen), period correct hose clamps,. GM heater hoses and those sort of things.

Does anyone have a spray paint that they'd recommend for inner fenders, heater core cover and fan shield? Were they gloss black from the factory in '64,... or? ?

MY '64 LAURENTIAN HAD SATIN (OR LOW GLOSS?) BLACK INNERS AND HEATER CORE. I RE-PAINTED THEM WITH SATIN BLACK.
