Modern Muscle Collectables

I read in a magazine recently (and I can't find book) a number of "suggestions" of vehicles to be bought and kept..

What will be the car guys in the future be looking for?  "moden muscle car" to run with my old muscle car   Any suggestions?

The article mentioned WS6 Trans Ams and SS Camaro  especially 98-02 with LS series motors

I would like to have a "moden muscle car" to run with my old muscle car
I like the Mustangs 30k and the Camaros 50k are too expensive (now)  My wife saw a RT Challenger photo and thought she would like one of those...

I think the first issue Canadian Challenger "500"s will be collectible. However the Mustang GT is nice. We got a 2010 Mustang GT in at work and they are one nice car. Ford has really come a long way in the last couple of years. Hard to believe!

In 40 years I will be 101   I probably won't remenber what a Pontiac or GM built orphan  is   lol

Carl, if you are serious about buying one, contact me via PM. I can connect you with someone who has a flawless WS6 ultra low mile Trans Am for sale.

People will always collect things but I'm afraid we have lived through the Golden Era of the automobile, a love affair with the car and freedom it respresented following WWII into the 60's. That climate and passion I don't think will be repeated not to mention the artistic styling. All the cars mentioned are throwback rip offs. new cars all look like balloons filled with liquid.

I  think you are correct for us! I spoke with a 35 year old yesterday, and he can only dream of 99-05 Corvettes     What will be a collectable to the next generaton?

I would never consider a "modern muscle car" a true collectible. It is like any "collectible" these days ... it is already deemed an instant "collectible"... I think it being named so is the kiss of death.

the article i can't find   was making a list of possible future collectable cars

in 1964 if you told the "old guys then" that the GTO and Mustang were to be collectibles  the response would be the same as above!!!   lol

Saw a top-of-line 2001 Prowler with 49 miles go for less than it's original sticker price tonight on BJ. Someone was speculating, and got burnt. In 2001, I thought that Prowlers would have been a future collectible.
'64 GTOs & Mustangs weren't touted as "instant collectibles" when they first came out, therefore people didn't keep them in mint shape, they drove them. The new high-end Camaros, Tangs, Challengers will be babied due to their perceived investment potential.
Just my opinion.
Out of all the modern muscle, I like the Challenger.
BTW, I better stock up on Sidney Crosby rookie cards!biggrin

Having a V6 in the Prowler killed it.

Tons of 2010 Camaros for sale in the states in the 31K to 38K range. I wonder if they will shut down the export of Camaros claiming that the Canadian specs are different on the bumpers like they did with the Z-06 Corrvettes. When I bought my Duramax in the states two years ago I could buy a brand new Z-06 for 45K. They were 65K in Canada and now it's the same with the Camaro. I too have had bad thought about the Camaro. I might make a call to find out what would have to be changed. I found a Beauty all customized for 38K so I'll post it later. I want one bad!!furiousfurious

Most young kids want German or Japanese cars. BMW,Porsche, Lexus, Acura, etc. So some of them will become collectible. Most of those brands weren't around when I was a kid or not very popular. Now when I go into Toronto or Detroit all you see on the road is imports. My daughter's friends are into VW's and BMW's. They have no heritage in Detroit3 cars. Most of them grew up in the back seat of a Honda, not an Impala. With the meltdown in Detroit last year I wouldn't be betting on any of the domestic iron, even though I drive a new Charger Daytona.

Earl is right about Toronto. People look at me like I am a freak when I park beside them in my Cadillac. Everyone I work with has a Toyota or Honda. When they want a new car thats all they think to go buy too. Wealthy 30 somethings buy Accura BMW and Lexus. This generation has such a poor brand image of Detroit automobiles. Plenty of people get in my car and then in utter amazement say something like Wow I had no idea a Cadillac was like this, its so smooth and powewrful and comfortable. So the generation today looks at a car as something to move them from here to there nothing more nothing less. Next time you see someone driving a new Camaro or Challenger I'll bet it is someone in their 40's +, throwback cars for a throwback market and they made them fat too to match their middle aged buyers.

Earl and Ray are right. All the kids at work drive Honda's. One of our brightest young techs is going all out customizing his Honda. Luckily he isn't into the "rice wings". His Civic is plain Jane on the outside (like how we'd do a Biscayne). He has all his money into the driveline and figures it will run low 12's. He is one sharp kid- mapping his ecu with his notebook computer. I rib him all the time telling him that if he was working on a V8, with his brains he'd be working on a 9 second car.

I think THESE cars may be future collectables.

It's true about us old geezers buying the new muscle cars. Except Mustang's. A lot of women buy the v6 convert's. Every time I see a Challenger it's someone my age, 50+

im 34 yrs old and i think the reason i like the old iron is because of my dad. We had a 67 charger and too hear that thing fire up, it puts tears in my eyes when i think about it!!LOL
I think because of this computer age, the younger crowd care more about what they can plug into it then how it drives. I think technology is great, but soon cars will just drive themselves, whats the fun in that? And your right, there is no style anymore, and i think thats another reason for the throwback cars, they cant think of any new styling, and lets face it, whats better than the styling of old cars!!??
