Personalized license plates

OK I finally got them in the mail. Reference previous topics:

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=118110&p=3&topicID=34899477

http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=118110&p=3&topicID=34942781

Here's how they look:

TKOFF-EH-2.jpg

Correct 1956 Florida colors.

They are made out of some kind of laminated plastic. Appearance is like they are covered with shiny clear plastic. The letters are NOT embossed, however the printiing process simulates embossing, from a moderate distance (say 2-5 feet away). But the shimmery surface detracts from realistic appearance.

There are 2 holes drilled for mounting, however the oval cutouts for mounting are NOT cut out - you have to do it yourself, not a trivial task, drill ends then cut and file -unless you want to leave unrealistic white ovals there. I took the time to cut them out.

Also I did NOT specify the dash, I wanted just a space before the EH ...

Summary = $21 pretty much wasted. Certainly not show quality. Might be OK for a cruise night, just for grins.

Oh well, the picture looks cool smile.gif

Hey, check with your Dept of Motor Vehicles, maybe they have a "Year Of Manufacture" program that will allow you to register your vehicle with the plates you have from 63? Lots of states do it, maybe your province does? Oft times they do not advertise it heavily, but it is there if you can ferret it out?

Good Luck!

Dave

Move to Ontario, you can do that here

Yes, Ontario let's yo do that witin certain guidelines. I bought a set of plates, 5 bucks so no big deal, commercial plates with year and month my car was made but when I went to the MTO the plates were still "active", still in the previous owner's name so can not be transfered without permission from plate owner. I deemed this not worth the hassle PLUS Historic Plates at $18 per year are way cheaper if your car qualifies.

Hey Lefty, go to www.ericsplates.ca and I'm sure if you sent him a picture of your 1913 plates he would give you some sort of a value on it as old plates are what he does. I got a set of '61 plates for my '61 GMC pickup truck and got them cleared and they're now legal on my truck. I also bought a set of 1969 plates for my '69 Parisienne ragtop which he told me are free and clear and that I have upto a year to send them away and get them put in my name for my car. Just an idea
anyways Lefty.

Apparently now an option in Alberta (as long as you have both plates, not just one).
Thanks for posting the feedback Dave.

We in Sask are trying to get that here as well. I have a chum in the SGI (Saskatchewan Goverment Insurance) office that is also trying to put the bug in the higher-ups ears to get this to happen.

In reality, it will be a free money grab for SGI, as they can charge the same personalized plate fee for a plate that they would have to search only and not stamp!! Hope it happens as I have plate for all my cars and trucks!!! (But, we need just the one only, though)

I'm hearing that here in AB it's a one time $50 charge which does not have to be renewed yearly.  (Keep in mind that this is third hand.  I'm hoping to find out more this week.)  They still provide you with a current plate to link the old and the new in the computer, but the new plate can remain in your trunk.  (Again, third hand...)

Beware if you are buying these in Alberta as I have heard all our Alberta plates are changing out this summer

I would like Ontario to go to one plate. So many of the new cars look horible with the front plate bracket. I have not drilled the bumper of my 07 Shelby yet, but its just a matter of time till I get pulled over by a cop that could care less how my car looks. Guess I should move.
