I have enver saw an article with so many mistakes, who wrote it ? They need to retract it completely, it's no wonder people get the wrong messages/info about Beaumonts and Acadians when crap like this is available!

My guess is the author is about 10 or 12 years old with an interest in old cars, but like many of us, still a lot to learn.

The internet is a scary place if you're looking for facts. There aren't many editors out there in cyber space.

Just  found this site  and wanted to put my two cents  worth in.

In May of 1965  when I was a mere lad of  24 years old,  I bought a 1965 Acadian Beaumont from Conroy Pontiac Buick  in West Vancouver BC.  Note:  In 1965 they were called Acadian Beaumont.  In 1966 they were dropped the Acadian name and were just  Beaumont.
Anyways my Acadian Beaumont was a 2 door  Sport Deluxe Hardtop  Silver Metallic color with black bucket seats,  no power brakes, no power steering with the L79    327cu in 350 hp. HD 4 speed trans  and  12 bolt rear end.
It was very, very quick.  I lived in New Westminster BC  and after a few launches from the street stop lights....there was no one in the area who wanted to come up beside me.   It would do 60 mph  in 1st gear,  85 mph in 2nd gear, 115 mph in 3rd  and the speed wasn't built to record the top of 4th gear.  For all you younger guys, please note;  the above speeds are in mph  not  kmh.
This little beaumont could beat GTO's and Ford and Mercury Cyclone 390 GT's.
One big drawback was the brakes..the little drum brakes ...it was a b------- to stop it when you got going.  If I ever got one these days I would put disc brakes  on front and back.
Yes...Conroy  did sell fast cars back in the day.

Super Chief

I don't imagine you happen to know the fate of that car?

And as 73SC said, it's cool to hear from you, an original owner of such a rare piece of Canadian automotive history.

It might be hard to fathom that most people, back in the 1950's and 1960's; really knew what was going to end up as being "rare".
For example;  From 1963 to 1965  I owned a 1955 Chev Bel Air 2 dr hardtop, then a 1956 Chev 4dr hardtop  and then a 1957 Chev 4 dr hardtop.  Each of them bought and sold for under  $1,000.00    Back then it wasn't known as the special car that it would turn out to be, years later.

As for the 1965 Acadian Beaumont L79 that I had; I traded it in for a 1966 Beaumont, in the early spring of 1966. A nice 2 door hardtop, Sport Deluxe red  with black interior,
buckets seats, power steering, power brakes, etc.  327 V8  275 hp.  It was no where as quick as the '65   but at the time it had better exterior lines, etc.
One day I saw my old '65 on the street...I flagged the driver over to the side.  We chatted for a while.  He told me of all of the wins he had racked up with it.   I told him of my experience with it.  On the rear where a set of Dominion Royal Master tires  ( a premium tire back in the day before radial tires) they were bald from all of the burnouts they had been subjected to)
I never saw the car again;  but I have the feeling that it got wrecked along the way and was probably crushed at the Auto Wreckers.

As I mentioned in my first post;  these cars were way faster than the brakes could stop them.  That is why I feel it eventually got totalled.

I would guess that there might only be  about half a dozen  to a dozen of these left intact.
They would truly be a rare collectable car

Note:  you would never know that  these 1965's with the L79;  had  that motor under the hood; from the outside.  No special badges outside.  No  identifying markings like the  Chevy II's and the Mailbu's  as to whether it had a 283 V8 or a 327 V8
Just a very small piece of metal on the side of the front fender (1 inch and a half square) which  said V8.  So pulling up beside it you wouldn't know  what was inside the hood;  283   , or the 250 hp  327,  300 hp  327  or the 350 hp  327

Until you rolled down your window and listened to it idle!

Carl;

I notice that you like 65 Acadian Canso's.

My oldest son once had a 67 Acadian Canso.  Sadly, he didn't keep it stock.  He installed a full race 350,  with  a roller cam, etc then tubbed out the rear wheel wells, put on huge slicks and went drag racing.  Talk about the sound of an engine idling...

As far as I know only 6 1965 Acadian Beaumont L79's left.
