1957 Transmission Mounts


Hi guys,

I'm currently restoring some engine and transmission parts and was wondering how do you tell if the transmission mounts are still good?

Those are still very solid, but the rubber is cracked a little. Can I just repaint the brackets end use those?

What's the rubber for anyway?

Steve, if the rubber isn't pulling away from metal, should be OK [look OK in pic] the rubber is to insulate the vibrations from engine from traveling into frame & body

Well since the rubber insulates the chassis and body from the powertrain, I would recommend replacing them, new reproduction, not that much money (~$40), here is one source:
