Questions: I-beam Height/Size For Chain Hoist

In your experience, what would be a minimum height from the ground for a I-beam for a chain hoist.
What size I-beam should I use for a standard chain hoist
The biggest job it would be used for is yanking an engine/tranny.

"Engineering is the art of modelling materials we do not wholly understand, into shapes we cannot precisely analyse so as to withstand forces we cannot properly assess, in such a way that the public has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance. "
- Dr. AR Dykes, British Institution

Sorry Daryl - too little information to provide a meaningful answer... Correct answer: "It depends".

More details:

Usually on a I-beam hoist, a trolly, that the chain hoisting block attaches to, rolls on the underside of the I-beam. I would like to know if there is a standard size I-beam (width/height/thickness, I'm not worried about length) that most trollies work with. The trolly provides sideways movement. I'd be only looking at about a 1 ton hoist (or should I go bigger? biggrin)

The height of the I-beam in the air would be important so you can hoist the engine/tranny high enough to clear the car.

Fred your set-up looks to be almost 8 feet high, right? I'd probably need a couple more feet higher, accounting for the sideways movement I'm talking about.
