Likely the most realistic car guy movie ever, wouldn't you say?

It sure captures the uncertainty of being a teen who's just graduated and is entering the world.

I talked to a guy once about a car I had for sale and a ton of other things.  After an hour or so on the phone, he tells me his passion is buying original cars from American Graffitti.  He said he had owned about 8 cars in total, just not all at the same time.
He was in Kentucky and he had also owned the 55 Cadillac from Driving Miss Daisy.
Story was a friend talked him into going to look at the car because it was in such perfect condition.  The guy in Tennessee that owned it leased it to the movie company because he did not want to sell it.  Later he died and his son had it for sale.
This Kentucky guy goes to look at it and ends up buying the car.  A couple years later he gets a call from what turned out to be a doctor in Egypt.  He negotiates with the guys son and they strike a deal.  He gets a friend to deliver the car to New York for shipment to Egypt.  The guy drives a rollback to New York with the Caddy on the back and arrives in NY city on 9/11/2001.  He is caught in traffic due to the explosions and the Caddy and rollback get covered with dust, dirt & soot from the towers.
Now the federal officials impound all vehicles stopped on the streets for fear there are vehicles with bombs in them.  When they check the drivers paperwork and find the car is headed for the mideast, they impound the whole rig.  The driver was held in NY with his rollback for two weeks before he can unload the Caddy and return to Kentucky.

There is also a red '64+ Mustang, a '67 Citroeon, and a white '71 Toyota Corolla in the film.

What's a field car? A field car drives around the field and kicks up the cow**** to make the lettuce grow! And the classic: "Your car's uglier than I AM! that didn't come out right"
If you notice, speaking of inconsistencies, when Milner tells Al he's babysitting and Carol gets p.o.'d and storms off; in the first scene, John's coupe has a license plate on it; in the following scene, the plate is gone; then in the last scene, it's back again. I read on an American Graffiti website that there's supposed to be a shot in the film where you can see the actual camera man in the rear-view mirror. It's my all-time favourite movie. "Where were YOU in '62?" And who can't but absolutely LOVE Wolfman Jack! That little movie had it all.

Well, being I know zippo about Citroen or Toyota I'm excused but I can't believe in the gazillion times I've watched, I missed the Mustang. What scene is that in?

I may have to go watch the movie again....!

Oh, now I remember the scene. The Toyota is parked up against a building doing a brake stand because the throttle is stuck......

Ha, ha.

At the beginning of the movie, a red first generation Mustang coupe is parked across the street from Mel's drive-in.
