I have used clean fresh solvent and then brake cleaner.
However, for a new engine I always put in a new pump. I think of them being relatively cheap and since it's such a vital component it feels safer doing that.
What year Acadian are you working on?

i`am working on 62 acadian s/w on another thread "overheated and no start" i pulled the engine and dropped the pan broken parts turns out dropped a valve and broke a piston i`am putting the old 194 on the shelf for another day.so i have a 250 c;i out of a 69 beaumont i have to put the 194 oil pan on for clearance and use the oil pump and pick-up also..i was going to replace the oil pump and screan but napa said no longer available..
I would try another parts store. Melling still lists an oil pump for that engine. It fits into the middle 70's at least, maybe even later than that if you want me to check.
I know I can get one if you are not in a hurry. I can have it here in a day. Do you want the part number.

It appears the pickup/screen assembly is unique to Nova and Acadian. Melling, at least, has no listing for one that fits them. It lists a number but it will be the one that fits the 6 cylinders in Chevelle and full size cars which is not the same. I doubt that GM still sells it new but I can check tomorrow at work if you like.
