Jim

I love it. Right up my alley. I've never seen that colour combo on a 66 Grande Parisienne before. Is that original?

Never took a picture of it, but it was like this (except not so nice!)

1929_Model_A_Ford.jpg

I did not have cowl lights or fancy radiator cap, but otherwise the same except red wheels (which I later swapped out for 1950 Lincoln rims that I reversed the rears, and put 5.60's from a Rambler on the front and 8.20's from a Cadillac on the rear).

My car came from the factory all white with a green leather interior, My Dad was a Body man and a painter so he repainted it in 1972. It was pearl white with a metalic green roof, Buckets, Console 2 spd. 275 hp 327,True Pozi rear diff, Rear defroster, Rear speaker, Heavy Duty Suspention Package. It was a Tent Trailer Towing Machine, and talk about go anywhere in the snow, I wish I could find a Pozi for my new car because it really does make a difference. It had a wiring fire under the dash in the late 80's, so I pulled the motor and trans that have now been rebuilt and are in my friends SD. And the rest of the car saddly went to the crusher because I had no place to store it at that time.Very Sad Indeed.But...I still Have some good pictures.

No, mine was never restored like the one in the photo. I bought my Model A from a farmer in Wisconsin, the day I turned 18 and could legally buy a car. $250 cash I had saved up working at a gas station down the street. The roof leaked, all 4 fenders were dented or cracked (I eventually had a body shop repair them), but it ran good with the original 4-cylinder motor. I don't know why I never took a picture of it but when I ran across that photo I thought "there's my first car (but nicer)"

My first car was my father's '69 Pontiac Catalina, which he bought new for $3,000.  He "sold" it to me for $90 in 1978 with 165,000 miles on it.  I made several modifications to it over the following year.  The biggest change was not the hood but what was under it.  I replaced the 265 hp 400 with a 370 hp 428 and a tri-power unit from a '66.  I never got around to putting a posi in it...but it needed it!  The tri-powers may not have provided much power over the standard 4bbl, but there is nothing like the sound of three 2bbls at full throttle!  Summers were a lot of fun with that car!  I sold it 3 years later for $2,700 to a "kid" who wrapped it around an oak tree a year later!  Thank God he walked away from it!

My first car was a '74 Datsun 260z.

Bought it in '79 and it was already rusting out, but looked GOOD.

Had the '74 dual carbs swamped out for '73 240z's which, when setup properly, were great.

This little car, with an estimated 175 hp, would just fly. Loved revving it up at a standstill and just feeling the car twist, ready to take off.

260z painted.jpg

This little "dent" happened when my younger "aspiring mechanic" brother over-tightened the lug nuts, stripping them. On my way home from working at the drive-in late one night, I felt the car start to vibrate badly and when I turned to get off the road, I watched the drivers side front tire and rim take off across the road.
I stayed up on 3 wheels for just a few seconds and then .. SLAM.. down onto the gravel of the shoulder.

Besides that little mishap, I loved this car until it litterly rusted away under me.
I sold the engine and scrapped the rest.

Oh wow Jim, thats one hell of a way to start owning cars!  I'm still working my way up to one of those 35 years later.

I'll post my humble first car as soon as i can scan a picture of it.

March 12th, 1974. 65 Acadian Canso Sport Deluxe. It was a write off that a local body man bought, installed a left door and fender, painted the whole car and sold to me for 500 bucks! After purchase, tax and license I think I had about $50 in the bank. I was 16, broke and happy.

I have a twin to this car today except in white. The car I have now has low miles and is in much nicer shape than the one in the picture when it was 9 years old.

After a few false starts at the age of 14, 15 (I had a '65 Rambler, and a '65 Rideau lined-up for purchase ... actually in our driveway, until my parents told me to take them back : ) ). I had a farmer tow a '49 Chev pickup (a total non-runner) that I wanted to buy, onto our driveway once.
I figured if I got the vehicle onto our driveway, they would let me keep/buy it ... it never worked!
I finally bought a '74 Honda Civic when I got my licence at 16.

My first car was a 54 chev 2dr 210, got it at age 14 and promptly took it apart, it never did see the road cry. In stead at 16 I got a hand me down 78 Ford Courier pick up like the 1 below, don't have any good pictures of my truck. It was sure handy for hauling around all my buddies broken down motorcycles. It was fun, good thing it was only a 4cyl 5speed, anything bigger I'm sure I would have died, that little truck was sideways and airborn on more than 1 occasion.wink Was nick named the Killer Courier.
