Anyone dealing with Senior Prom ?

Not a likely topic for Canadian Poncho but I figure plenty of guys my age with children similar ages as mine.

Our youngest is 18 and it's Prom time ! Holy cow, I've got about a G note into this already and it's not until the 28th.

Dress $385, shoes $120, Ticket $95, Hair and manicure $160, two limousines for 18 friends - $750 on my credit card!! but that's an account recieveable.

She calls me Friday and says "they scared up a date for me"  meaning her friends got her a date. Turns out I know his Dad and Aunt, coached his cousin too - ugh she couldn't believe it! Turns out he's a Private School boy - but now there are forms to fill out so he can attend, we have to give permission for him to take her since he's not in her school and his parents and Headmaster have to sign too!

What is this world coming to? confuse

Our "prom night" was our High School graduation...   Barb's new dress was 60.00 and I wore my 5 year old suit..
We walked to the school, and left early as the "rock band" that was hired, would not turn down the volume, when asked by the principle!
We all went to local resaturant for 35 cent burgers....  and we never forgot the night

All of our daughters prom dresses 75.00 each are hanging in garage with youngest daughters low mileage $1400.00 wedding dress.

What happens to the girls now, from low income families?  Do they stay home?

no, its this new generation the 20 somethings they get all hyped up it just a grad, have fun but dont go nuts. i maybe stay in contact with a handful of people from my grad and even less from university. in the grand sceme of things its only one day, when life and family come around it wont matter so why go nuts. a baby being born is imprtant first birthday, what highschoolers think of you means absolutially nothing. ill wait for the hate male but deep down they Know im right

My buddy that lives down the block, his daughter has her grade 12 grad last June.   One thing lead to another, and she spent the night in the crowbar hotel.  Hope your daughter has a better grad night experience.

Here the big rage is all the grads try to scare up a classic/performance/muscle car for grad.

In about 2002 our 94 SS went to grad. The wash boy in our service area borrowed it.

Next day when he brought it back I asked him how fast it goes!!!

He said it took a bit to get there but with 4 people in the car it went 222......

He lost to the 2000ish Vette and the 99 Camaro SS.

Big City, Big Limo, the bigger the better. I booked two 10 passenger Lincolns, I think they call them 120's because that's how much they are stretched.

I had a daughter go through her prom last year and another one this year.

The expenses are unbelievable. If I have one more daughter (or wife, for that matter) tell me they'll "wear this dress again, someday", I'll freak.

The daughter from last year, organized the limo "bus". What a nightmare.
We had to finally go all the way to Toronto to find one (we're 3 hours away) and
put $1000 down.

The day before the prom, they call to say the limo bus has broken down, but they
have another limo bus near us the same day, serving another prom.
Maybe we can schedule it, so they deliver one group of kids to one prom, zip out to our town and get/deliver our kids, pick up the other school's kids and take them home, then back to our school to pickup/deliver our kids.

And, they weren't going to give us a rebate and they wanted to leave early. Talk about nasty. When the limo bus gets to our place, it's dirty and it's got a stripper pole in the back. Needless to say, the mom's got in their quick and cleaned it up and the dad's had quite a talk with the limo driver and escort, to get some money back.

So, the crazy process goes on and wouldn't you know, the limo arrives to the high school too late and the kids can't get into their own prom.

Luckily, my brother is a senior teacher there and I play ball with the principal.
A couple favours are cashed in and we get the kids in through the side door.

I've never been so stressed, but the night was a success, as far as the kids are concerned, which was the important point.

I'm glad it's just about over.

Scott

I passed on the bus, it looked like a freaking brothel inside! This is my youngest and last prom, my eldest actually did two proms because her BF went to another school, but two of those were less trouble than this ONE.  Son went out and got a nice suit that was about it for him.

put a $ limit on it. I didn;t take a limo, drove my own car, rented my tux, (and a room) the girlfriend and I had plans for a great evening, by the time it was over, another 2 couples joined us. But that's another story. The point is, I payed for it myself, so didn't go overboard. Needless to say, the girlfriend of that time is NOT my wife.

Tell your son that he doesn't need a dress and a manicure.
Just kidding, you guys are all scaring the crap out of me.  Our gals turn 8 and 10 next month and the time is flyyyyyyyyying by.  I'm not looking forward to those high school years.  For what it's worth, I feel for you...

For my grad in '79, I drove my 70 Parisienne, the motor of which is in my 70 2+2 convertible.  My mom bought me a new suit, and that was it.  I paid for the flower for my date, I paid for dance tickets, and the aftergrad tickets.

The evening started off with a ****tail party at a fellow's place who lived on the private lake in the community where I still live.  It was actually quite cool, we all played grown-up and introduced our dates to the others at the party, asked them what they'd like to drink, then over to the bar to mix it.

We then drove downtown for the dance at the convention center.  Once we left there we drove to the guys place who organized the aftergrad party at Rafter 6 Guest Ranch, as he had the first bus leave from his place.   A night of boozing, etc. and got home at about 7:30 am.   The whole thing probably cost me $100 (in 1979 dollars), plus my mom a couple hundred for the suit.

I think about 2 couples showed up in a limo.

Its only money ! replemishable resourse !

I take my 8 year old son to several men's shops to buy a nice suit for his first communion at the end of the month-well nobody has anything ! one suggests Sears-I frown-my wife is OK with cheap-so I go and find something for $150, my other son wants a battery powered tractor for his birthday (but not enough money to buy one today), I stop at the cash to pay for the suit then do scratch and win-I get 50 % off ! so I dishonestly ask if I get a carry out or pick up the tractor in the warehouse-oh, I have two happy boys now !!!!
