Had a good day at the local drag strip in Gimli on Sunday. Always like the first run of the season. Lots of excitment as a Opel altered fliped on its roof in front of us. This car was running around 8.5's all day until this happened. He came of the line with wheels in the air and veared towards the gaurd rail, it almost looked like he saved it when it flipped on its side and then on its roof . This pic is around 1/4 track mark. Driver was ok.
Underpowered German-built GM sports car of the late 60's/early 70's, here's a ratty example:
Because of the light weight and short wheelbase they could be made into wicked drag cars.
Safety rules (roll cage, driver harness, etc.) are #1 priority in all forms of racing, unfortunately crashes do happen even with the best fabrication, construction and maintenance - glad the driver was protected well for the Opel, the car can be rebuilt.
