Yes, Marina blue. Done in water borne base, solvent Clear. I did all the bodywork and prep myself then had my friend Steve paint it at his work. He was mixing and spraying for 6 hours in two booths. 4 base coats and 4 clear coats on everything.

Looks great Gary!  I was wondering how you have been doing on this project.  Can hardly wait to see it again this summer.  I'll be stopping in the next time I'm out your way!

Very, very nice!  Marina blue is by far my favorite of the blues.  What color interior are you going with?  (Black, Bright Blue or White?)

Beautiful! Agree 100%, Marina Blue was (and is) outstanding. On one of the 67 Corvette roadsters I had, it was complemented by Bright Blue leather seats which really looked killer. However in a bigger car like a Chevelle, it might be overwhelming? But any of those colors would look great.

Oh - wondering, water-borne paint because of anti-pollution laws?

Dave

The shop it was painted at has converted all their "base" paints to water (environmental reasons I suppose). It is a huge shop with 5 downdraft booths. Clears are still solvent at this point but I'm sure something will be in the works down the road for them as well. All Sikkens paint.

I'm going with white seats and door panels, bright blue carpet and seat belts. Console and dash will be marina blue. Semi gloss black rear cove, black side stripe and black stay fast (cloth) top. I have a real nice set of 15" mag styles on NOS "stones" redlines and a set of Foose five spokes with radials for it.

Aluminum head 427 is ready to go. GM high rise square port intake (modified with porting epoxy to match the GM heads). Cast iron ceramic coated exhaust manifolds with Gardener repro duals. 700R4, 12 bolt 3.31 posi.

I purchased the car from Carl S. over twenty years ago so it's pretty exciting to see it with paint !!! Lots of help from Carl, John, Steve and many others to get it this far. Steve has done a lot of painting on this project... tub, trunk, underside of body were done in 07

I have seen this car from beginning to where it is now-a truly incredible journey to say the least.Went and personally saw the car yesterday and I was very excited for Gary to see it in color. The car is extremely straight-not even a flip in the paint, body lines are exceptional, gaps are all super even-can't wait to see it get rubbed out( color sanded and buffed).Gary did all the body work himself-absolutely gorgeous job!! He also did his 72 Nova and the paint on that car would rival anyones-including all the fancy guys from here and the States.I am very excited to see this one all done. When this car is finished it will be the best 67 Big Block Chevelle rag you are ever going to see-bar none!!

Here's a couple more of the progress and where it started.

Firewall was changed to repair some prior damage and to add AC.  It's been a loooong road so far.  The trunk floor wheel tubs and rear 1/4's of this car were remarkably solid... especially compared to the floors (Fred Flintstone).

Thanks for the comments John but you're setting the bar pretty high yourself man !

Although few of you know Gary well enough to have seen his work, 68SD396RAG left me a phone message this afternoon to say the car is beautiful. I sold it 21 years ago to buy a Pontiac convert and no regrets. It's far more project than I ever would tackle. Gary gets an A+ for persistence working on this car as you can see.

Must have been a lot of those Canadian Tire pop rivets to replace the firewall, huh Gary??? Just kidding, there won't be any metal pop riveted on to this thing, that is for sure.

I wish he'd post a picture of where the floor should be before he started!

Now if only he had welded in a Beaumont dash.......

Hey Carl.... It's got a 66 Beaumont convertible frame... does that count ????
(I believe that even be a TH400 crossmember). If I was starting over today it very well may have been trimmed out as a 67 Beaumont.

Thanks for the great comments and encouragement everyone !! I always enjoy looking at others progress pics to help me stay motivated as well.

Gary

Well, I personally inspected this car tonight. All above statements regarding the workmanship are wrong. It's nicer than it's given credit for. I'm pretty sure his cash outlay plus let's say $25 an hour would equal a nice cottage on a lake somewhere!!!

At any rate, it's gonna be neat to see this car on the road one day after resting for likely a good 30+ years.

I'm glad some guys have more money, patience and talent than me when it comes to old cars...

Looks great, good work. Marina blue is my favorite color and my 67 Impala convert will be changed to marina blue when the time comes to paint it.

Carl where did you find this car???
