My 95 Sonnoma was blowing hot air when I tried it for the first time this year. I have had no problem with it in the 8 years I`ve owned it till now. It took a can and a 1/2 to get it up and running. My question is, how safe is the stop leak stuff you can put in the system? I see no signs of oily areas where there may be a leak. I can not see the peice in the dash and hope its not there. I have changed that peice in a 96 Blazer I had and don`t want to do that job again. Its looking like it will be a long hot summer so I don`t want to go with out a/c.
Let me put it to you this way, 4 years ago I put the sealer in the system of my wife's Suburban after the local shop hosed me for $400 the year before. I vaccum tested the system over night and it didn't even lose one pound, I think it went from 30 psi to about 29.5 psi. I topped it up with duracool. It needs the odd top up from time to time but I just asked her today how it was, she drove down from the cottage 2 hours in that heat on HWY 400. "beautiful" was what she said. She's happy and she's alive so I think it is safe.
I see a kit at Canadian Tire for $44 or so, gauge, filler hose, a couple of cans of coolant, they sell seperate cans of sealer and oil too. I go to the local Ford Dealer near my office to get Duracool refrigerant, sealer and drier, oil is already in the coolant, he sells it to me at shop rate about 12 bucks a can when I need it. Either option works although I understand Duracool seems to cool a lot better, I get a 12 to 14 degree change from ambient temperature at vents, so that is COLD, take a 25 degree day and I get 13 degrees blowing out.
I did not want to put the sealant in if it gummed up the system. I`ll have to see how long the charge last now I have filled it. I pick the 134a up south of the boarder on sale for $5 a can. I`ll pick up a can of sealer next time I am across.

I got some at "Big lots" for $5.00 and a install can with hose for $10.00 works great!!!
24 hours and the charge is still holding so it must be a small leak. Dad called and asked if I would check his 96 Fleetwood out because it was blowing hot air and he had someone coming to buy it. The condencer has a good size hole it but they bought it anyway. Still a good buy for $4,000
