the beast gets a cap

i've been looking for a cap for the beast for about 2 month now. no luck. i'm surprised because the same box measurements ran 54 - 87 for a shortbox stepside. well i picked up a vintage wood frame one that was 4" to wide and 1' too long. the lady that sold it to me said i'm buying the windows the rest just comes with it. this thing was built 30 years ago and never got sold, just strip of parts for other caps. first step was to take off the skin, it was full of ants. i took 4' off 1 side, knocked the curved front off, because the window didn't line up at all on the 55, lifted it to the roof and took the remainer off the rear to center the side windows. still have to do the siding on the other side, and make a lift gate. but she is coming along good.

It's amazing how these things were built before Fiberglass. Just like a vintage car body for the most part from what I can see. My 1978 Venture Hardtop camper has the same stucture in the body, with a plywood (rotten) clad with aluminum cap. I'm lucky to have the skills to fix it, otherwise she'd have been long gone. Good luck with the beast Steven!

Hey Steven? Is there anything you can't do buddy? WOW! Doesn't matter what you drag home, it's like within minutes, hours or days, you have the thing ripped from one end to the other and then all put back together again really nice! What a talent you have fella. I guess the convertible
roof frame I have for you will be brought home, given a little TLC and five minutes later will be on a car and skinned with a canvas eh? LOL! Beautiful job to make that little topper/cap fit your trailer buddy.
