Old cigarette dispenser...

Saw a pretty cool device the other day.  There's a fella I met at a local flea market who sells old auto collectables who I traded old Austin "stuff" for a couple of drive in speakers.  (A neat fella.)  After we did the exchange he mentions that he has something that I've go to see.  He pulls out (wrapped in tissue paper) what appears to be a cigarette dispenser that mounts on the dash of the car.  However, upon closer inspection, it has a wire on the back.  It turns out, this dispenser also has a built in cigarette lighter!  You push it once for the cigarette to drop down at which point it is lit.  Then press it a second time for the lit cigarette to be released.  Pretty cool.
Also, it turns out he sent an email to Jay Leno to inform him of it.  Jay apparently responded indicating that he also has one in one of his own cars, and that he would be in the market for another if it ever became available.
Kind of cool story I thought...

Everybody smoked around here in the Tobacco Belt of southwest Ont. I remember a couple of the Dentists in Tillsonburg and Aylmer had ashtrays with complimentry 5 packs of Export A  in the waiting room for the patients. My old Cadi convertible has 3 cig lighters in it.

I smoked for 25 years, starting at age 15, it was just 'normal' back then. When I first moved to Florida the Indian reservations sold cartons without tax, used to stock up there.

Then it became unpopular, and the aggravation of having to go outside at work to smoke, plus risign prices, plus knowing what it does to your health, so I finally quit. Took a good 6 months before the craving went away.

Now I can't stand to be in a bar anymore, way too smoky.

Dave

I remember reading about Walter Gretzky (Wayne's Dad eh) who after he had his stroke mentioned that when he turned 14 or 15 (back in the old country) his mother told him something along the lines of "now that your a young man it's time to act like one" and taught him how to smoke.
It makes me wonder just how many things we're doing today or telling our kids that are going to haunt them down the road?
Good for you for quitting Dave.  I've often wondered if I had ever started, if I would have had the gumption to quit.
PS  Re the question...Did I happen to take a picture of it?  Nope.  If I get the opportunity though on a future visit I'll try to remember to take a camera...

The evils of smoking.
Used to smoke in high school because it was cool and the in thing.
When I went away to university I had to quit. Figured I couldn't afford to smoke and drink both and I was going to have a lot nore fun drinking!
