Hey Ray how big are these Fleetwoods (20 feet)? I found an 83 near by 3800 certified too. Don't know if I should check it out.

The 93 for $1,800 is the one to go look at. About 20 feet long.

Go for the 93 Ray mentioned. The 83's had the 4100HT engines. A bad choice to haul around all that weight.

Even better, try to find a 94-96 with towing package.

260 hp LT1 and 3.42 gears from the factory. Tire fryer, still good on fuel and quiet, smooth luxurious ride!!!

I am going to say to you to stay away from the LT1 because of the notorious Optispuke, I mean Optispark system. In a car the age of a 94-96 it is bound to be ready to go for the second or third time. This repair is expensive , almost as much as the asking price of the car. For a young guy like you with limited money I say stick with the original small block in the 93 that is for sale. For $1,800 you'd be hard pressed to find a comparable car.

I owned a 94 SS from 2000 until last July. Never replaced the Optispark.

I bought a 94 Roadmaster in October 2001. Wife's daily driver 24/7/365, still is, never replaced the Optispark.

I bought a 94 SS in Sept 2002. Daily driver 24/7/365 ever since, never replaced the Optispark.

Bought a 94 Roadmaster last spring, 320,000 km, previous owner had it since 1996 and never replaced the Optispark.

I know my turn will come that one of the Opti's dies but my two daily drivers now have close to 300,000 km each. I have to disagree with the public opinion that Optispark engines are junk. By now I can't condem one of them if it fails.

About $300 US will buy a new Opti unit if you do some shopping, and somebody with average to good mechanical skills can replace it in about 3-4 hours.

With that said, the 93 is virtually the identical car, except as stated, it has a lower horsepower throttle body injected 350 and a conventional distributor.

In 1993 the Fleetwood was the most expensive and largest car built in North America. You have to understand that the Government and Insurnace companies want these cars off the road. They are expensive to repair and the supply of parts is gone. Basically if you crash the car it will be written off so don't even consider getting collison insurance.

Also consider experince, most Police departments are self insured so their claims never make the experience pool of insurance companies, Cadillac's do.

I am actually surprised that you got a quote, most insurance companies would not touch an 18 year old car with an under 25 year old driver.

I was looking at a LT1 95 Firebird (80,000km)  and wondered about the Optispark     hmmm

One thing that kills them is water. If you wash the engine on an LT1, don't pressure wash anywhere near the front.

Also, if the water pump seal fails, replace the pump immediately as the coolant can drip on the Opti and will kill it.

You are right sorry, I got the quote for a 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood.

Insurance is such a joke, make it a law, then no one can offer it to you. bwahaha, such a joke.

Carl, just search the web on Optispark problems, there are more hits than Carter has pills. I see prices from $1,000 to $1,500 to make the repair. Part alone is $400 if you are lucky. no

Carl, if you are thinking of buying an LT1, save this link for future use. This is an OEM unit. There are cheaper ones out there but apparently a lot of them are offshore and not as good.

If you feel up to the challenge or know an electronics geek, there is a guy that sells the optical unit that is inside (part that usually is what fails) for about $60 and apparently it is not that hard to replace.
