Does this mean I need to start a Canadian Dodge website?

No! However I did buy a neat old Canadian Dodge today. A 59 Dodge Regent. She's a plain jane 4 door survivor with 62000 miles. She was sold new in Steinbach Manitoba (is this anywhere near you Carl?) and was sold to the uncle of the fellow I bought it from with 55000 miles. It has 62000 on it now.

As you may or may not know, Chrysler also produced unique cars for the Canadian market, much like GM did with Pontiac, Acadian and Beaumont. The Canadian Dodge for 58 had the rear end of a U.S Plymouth and the front end of the U.S Dodge! This Regent is a bare bones model, powered by a flat 6. It does have options- radio, heater, and power steering.

She is quite solid having one repaint in the 80's in it's original Sandrift Beige and Sandalwood Brown colours. I'm amazed how solid this car is, including underneath. I assume there's been floor work but if so it was well done.

No big block here!

She sounds like a sewing machine. Not as gutless as I thought. The trans is a pushbutton 2 speed Powerflite.

The interior is decent. It needs new windlace

The only real rot I found was at the bottom of the front fenders. One side has a loony sized hole. The other side is bubbling. An easy fix:

58Regent023.jpg

The trunk pan is solid etc. Everything works, including the gas gauge and radio!

Although the 60 Strato was cool, this one was cheaper. I have a weakness for Virgil Exner's Chrysler products from 57-61. You either love 'em or hate em!

penners was a chev olds dealer, 30 min se of wpg. originally in winnipeg and moved to steinbach in about 70, the old wpg dealership became Pembina Dodge. I remember going to this dealer with my uncle when I was five. he traded in a  60 olds 4 door for a 61 buick electra 4 door hard top with power seats and power windows.I thought it was the coolest car ever. white with a blue roof. exact color scheme as his olds.

I'm trying to get them. They really set the car off. So, should I assume the car was sold used at Penners? Thanks for the info!

Steinbach? Never heard of it!  Just kidding. My wife has two sisters living there. I was there Saturday, my wife was there today. It's about 50 miles east of here.

Something tells me Penner was Dodge years ago but I will have to ask around.

Pontiax, are you saying it was always a Chev dealer when it was in Steinbach?

Penner was open until about 4-5 years ago when the local Pontiac dealer bought it up. Just a year or two prior to that, the Pontiac dealer was bought up by the Ledingham family which I believe owns Regina Motor Products. Am I correct on that, Sask guys?

Steinbach now has only one GM dealer that is doing  Chev, Buick GMC.

The lady who owned the car in Manitoba was from Sandy Hook. I'm going to have to do some Googling to see if she is still around!

The owners manual shows it as 251 CI. It felt about the same as my 54 Chevy with the 235. The auto and PS rob some power. It still felt "peppy" (a great word to describe a gutless 6!)
Apparently the flat 6 in Canadian Dodges is different from the U.S flat 6. I'll have to do some more research.

Her name was Mary Cooper. She wrote on the bill of sale "Purchased from Mary Cooper, Sandy Hook Manitoba Oct 2, 1984 1958 Dodge Four Door Regent Serial # xxxxxxxx with original miles 55000" I'd love to hear what you find out about her. Maybe a relative has a picture of the car when it was new?

There was a lot of different engines in the Mopar line up back then. Canada & USA were different as well as Dodge, DeSoto, Plymouth and Chrysler. Nice looking car. I knew you had a thing for "Forward Look" cars.
I can't wait to see it.

then move to steinbach and became a GM dealer.  please verify this with your dad's
lol
