Just a couple of random thoughts of my own---

A Buy a "brand name" if at all possible.

B Buy one that you can use gas with. Don't try to save money by welding with flux core wire. Guaranteed you'll hate the job it does and the smoke it makes.

C Used is fine if you observe A and B!

Two of my friends have bought used Snap On welders that were older and in both cases they have been very happy with them.

Jonathan, listen to Carl, I tried the flux core, didn't like the finished welds & I took welding in school,so I know it wasn't "inexperience"!!!!

Looks like you are going to need another job pretty soon if you keep buying . It all depends on you fiances get what you can afford but if you can wait a while save some money and buy a new Lincoln it will last you a life time.

As always buy a brand name.

I'll echo everyone else. Get a gas one not the flux core.

The Hobart Handler 140 (115V) MIG is on sale at TSC $599 ($100 off) this week. Perhaps you could get an advance on your next Christmas gift and get Ma and Pa to pitch in on it.

Tractor Supply Company
Don't think they have a store in downtown Toronto. You'll probably have to head out to farming country.
