I will have to call my friend in Alberta. He collects L72 B bodies and he has the resources to buy a car like this. I KNOW it will interest him!

He better hurry. I don't think it will last long at that price, even with the market the way it is.

He has a 66 L72 SS car in that colour and a matching 66 L72 convert in that colour. How cool would that be to have 3 numbers L72 cars, all the same colour, and all different model/style???

I said to my wife during breakfast that if we hadn't just bought the piece of property that we did, this car would be mine.
I guess know I'll just have to work on what I've already got!wink

If that works out, would you be willing to give me a quick rundown of the car? I could pass it along to him.

I do have another plant that I need to drop in on and if I can work that out tomorrow I will have a look at it. I had a 66 SS 396 4spd years back. Sold it to a yougster that destroyed it in a few months.

Correct. Plain Jane, no options 2nd gen Camaro, California car, needs very little. All it's getting is a 350/4 speed, some Z-28 suspension components and a paint job.

Forgive me if I mispell the original owners name however if my memory serves me correctly this is Dave Drewitt's old car which he campaigned at Kohler dragway in the mid 60's, being the first 427 car I ever saw back in the 60's. The car was raced throughout the late 60's and was truly an L72 car from the factory; I think Forbes Bros. in Brantford, although I could be incorrect as to the dealership. I suspect the original motor is long since gone as racing certainly took its toll on original powerplants that were raced. There are photographs in existence which support the lettering on the car and its race history. This is not an ordinary L72 car and has an increddable racing history which is for some reason not advertised by the gentleman that owns this car at the present time. If I could afford this car at this point I would as it is an absolute bargain considering its rarity and race history and its from my home town. As far as I am conserned this is the most downplayed documented race car I have ever seen.

It also appears to have been very well preserved, especially for a car with race history.

You are correct. I talked to the owners wife today. The original block is in storage and goes with the car. Her husband has had a stroke and she is selling their baby. There is also some nos sheet metal going with the car. It is original metal but was painted to cover up all the race lettering. She has 2 people coming from far wanting the car and she said first come getts it. She has told the one guy she will take $25,000 for it. My guess is I will have over $40,000 in my 65 Beamont by end.I have way too much on my plate as is but I`m going to remember this as the one that got away.

I found this on the web:

Dave Drewitt and Wayne Huber campaign one of Eastern Canada's fastest Super Stock cars. The SS/AS classed 1989 Chevrolet Camaro, which was prepared at Smith Performance Specialties, features a 394 CID small block Chevrolet engine. That motor, which was also assembled by Smith Performance Specialties features Buick cylinder heads, a Lunati camshaft and Hooker Headers.A powerglide 196 automatic transmission built by Competition Transmissions delivers power to a Ford 9" rear end equipped with 5:86 gears.

Driver and team owner Dave Drewitt is a golf pro and instructor at Willow Valley Golf Course in Mt. Hope, Ontario.Drewitt has been a PGA Professional since 1974.
...
Dave Drewitt began his drag racing career in 1965 driving a 1966 Chevy equipped with a big block 427.That car, which ran as an A/Stocker, was in fact one of Canada's very first muscle cars.In 1992 he acquired his current 1989 Camaro from Canadian Rick Giles and ran that until 1998.During the 1999-2000 seasons Dave Drewitt drove FJ Smith's revolutionary Chevy S-10 Super Stock truck SS/TB.Drewitt's best finish ever in NHRA national event competition came while driving that truck -- he was runner-up in Super Stock eliminator at the NHRA Keystone Nationals near Reading PA. During the year 2000, Drewitt took Smith's truck to a third place finish in final UAP/Napa/Dana/Smith Performance Stock/Super Stock series points.

With continued support from backers Smith Performance Specialties, Dave Drewitt and Wayne Huber will run their Chevy Camaro at select IHRA and NHRA national event races.

How recent is the picture of the car in the ad?

I agree with 427 Strato about this being a bargain. How much would a 66 Hemi Belvedere or Coronet in this shape go for- 40 or 50?hmm
