John (StriperSS) posted a bunch of nice photos of car shows recently, and among them was this shot of a cowl plate:
I would like to do this treatment to mine, and to start I have wiped it with lacquer thiinner, but it does not look as nice and crisp as the one above:
How can I make it "pop" like the one that John photographed?
Thanks, Dave

my 2 cents,, looks like he painted it , then gently sanded the raised portion with 400 grit on a small piece of wood for flat backing, then some aluminum polish to seal it up.

Dave, your 56 plate should not be painted at all. At the factory, they slapped a piece of 2" masking tape over it and then painted the car. They did a sloppy job of it too, just check out some of the other cowl tags as examples.
The detailed one shown above is a later 60's car, they WERE painted over with black at the factory

Thanks guys, the 'how to do it' methods should work fine. Hwever maybe I will just be a little more aggressive with the lacquer thinner and take it all down to bare metal like original.
