We've have the same problem. Worse this year than it's ever been. At least 2 new fawns. They pretty much have their way here since we haven't had a dog for 2 years. When we had a dog around, they stayed away because they could smell him and occasionally he "exercised" them a bit too...

Worst thing is, the police shoot your dog if he is caught chasing deer. The deer have more rights than a dog.

We had a deer in our back yard about a month ago. It jumped our back fence and panicked. He tried to jump an 8 foot fence and got hung up on it. He finally got himself free and hopped back over our back fence again. Funny thing is we live right in town!

You might think that living 10 minutes from Yonge and Bloor in Toronto we get no wildlife but you'd be wrong. Fox, Coyottes some Coywolves, Raccoons of course wander the streets at night. Deer are a big issue at the airport. My eldest Airedale cornered a Raccoon last spring and was beatingthe you know what out it it when I intervened.....it died anyway. Squirrels are commonly caught and shaken up by my two Airedales.

My son tells me that there are several sightings of Bear in the Simcoe Country region this year. He also said that the other night he was patrolling with the window down and he heard a strange sound coming up from behind and beside his car, the next thing he knew a deer was trotting right beside his car then it darted in front of him. He hit the binders on the Impala and missed it.

There was a bear shot just at the London city limits a couple of months ago. Now there are warnings as others have been seen.

News report from April 27:

A black bear wandering the streets of London, Ont., is now dead after police shot and killed the animal this afternoon.

Police say they surrounded the bear near the Oxford Street Bridge.

At one point the animal charged at an officer, was shot and wounded and ran off.

The bear was located 20 minutes later on the grounds behind a children's centre and was shot once more and killed.

The death of the bear comes about six hours after it was originally spotted around 4:30 a.m.

Police say there were five sightings of the bear in total, and the scare forced two schools to go into lockdown.

We didn't see any venture that far out of the downtown area but to be sure I had baseball bats and crowbars at each door.

Pape & Eastern where the detention centre is is not that far by car, probably 10 minutes. Pape is actually one of the Main streets in our part of town, basically 3 concessions to the west of me, but we live at the top where it meets the valley and the wildlife was down near the lake, probably 5 or 6 miles away.

It was a lot of fun watching that on TV all weekend. The ones who were not captured seemed to have all gone back to where they roamed from.

We have had deer here for years, eating our grass and weeds, but today was the first time I had ever seen one attack my dog, It was chasing my small dog and stamping it's hoofs, tryin to hit my little dog. I chased the deer away but he'll be back, Time to find my slingshot. Or possibly a crossbow, HMMMM.

Our deer are much braver this year than ever before also. I sure had "momma" upset the other day when I got close to her fawn.
