58 Pathfinder

Hello everyone! My son and I are about to pickup and restore a 58 Pathfinder. It is identical to one that my parents owned back in the 60's. We still have it but too ugly to fix.

My question is what chevy car does the pathfinder share a body with? And also looking for a headliner and windshield.

Thanks....Dave

Welcome aboard!!! Love the 58's and hope you and your son have a great time restoring her.The 58 chevy biscayne would be the closest.

Very cool pics, must be a little higher class than mine, that has different taillights and we do not have the rear wheel covers. That is not a 58 is it??

It's a '58 alright, just a little resto mod. Those taillights are 59 Cadillac items, very common custom touch back in the day to spruce up a less expensive car. Those skirts are totally custom.

Very nice car....do you have a place to recomend for a windshield and a headliner? I have not inspected the car completley yet, but I know I will need these for sure. I see a lot of people writing about NOS, is this the only source for such things?? I don't imagine I will find used parts that easy in good shape...

Well, my son and I went to Alberta to pick up the car last Sunday, he was pretty excited about it all. Got there and it was in pretty good shape all things considered. Just unloaded it tonite and actually got it running! Needs a water pump though (leaking like a sieve) and has fuel in the engine oil (fuel pump maybe??) and a transmission linkage issue (no 1st or reverse). Other than that the old 261 purrs like a kitten and fires up when you touch the key (once warm).  Luckily as it turns out, the parts 58 I have in the bush actually has some usable bodypanels to fix this one up.

Therefore my (starting) want list for the restoration is as follows:
Water pump, fuel pump, one taillite, front windshield, headliner, carpets for floor, factory rims, and if anyone knows if steel floor panels are attainable, otherwise I guess I will have to beat out my own.

If anyone has a lead on any of this stuff, a heads up would be appreciated...dave

Floor pans will be the same as 58 Chev DelRay & Bel Air 2 dr post. Same goes for windsheild, carpet, rims etc. Any NAPA or even CTC should be able to source a water & fuel pump.

I might be wrong but if theres feul in the oil pan that means you may have a bad piston ring? plz correct me if i'm wrong

Maybe you are right on the piston rings, maybe washed down fuel from repeated unsucessful starting attempts? My plan was to drain the oil and try it again, this fuel was in the crank when I picked it up...
