'78 AMC Gremlin

Hi folks,

I know it is not a Pontiac but it is Canadian built and you may be interested in it.
My 1978 AMC Gremlin X 232/6 with a four speed stick and Levi's interior. It is a very original car with 51,000 km on the clock, and other than the X package and the Levi's interior has very few options. I purchased it from the original owner a couple of years ago, and he had the dealer install the roof rack when he purchased it from Malvern AMC on Sheppard Avenue East in Scarborough. He later added the fog lamps, a CB radio and an 8 track plays.

The 232/6 has a one barrel carb and puts out about 90hp, which believe it or not give a great power to weight ratio for highway cruising, and it gets good gas milage to boot. 1978 is my personal favourite year for Gremlins, it has the neat aerodynamic front end introduced the year before, plus the new Concorde dashboard. The beige Levi's interior was only available in '78 for passenger cars, (into the '80s for Jeeps). I really like this car, most of my car buddies hate it but I'm gonna try and get buried in it when I go! It is a keeper.

We all collect different things we like or think are cool.... Glad to see an original Gremlin has survived.
I have some great memories of riding in a friends bright yellow Gremlin when he drove it to school. There was a large temporary water line going across one of the streets in town and it had dirt piled over it so traffic wasn't stopped. Most people slowed for the large hump of dirt, but not the car load of kids in a Gremlin. My friend used to say "it has Jeep suspension!" and hold the peddle to the floor from about a hundred yards away and man did we fly! Amazinly enough, the car took the abuse without a problem. About the 5th day of this little noon hour escapade, the RCMP were waiting for the flying Gremlin. They didn't find it quite as funny we did, thus my friend walked for 6 months.

I alway's thought these were neat looking with the "X" and "Levi's" Package. I liked the Hornet hatchback a little better with the "X" package but it's cool to see one of these in this kind of condition!

Always liked these. I also enjoyed the Pacer's. Thought they were both "out of the box" designs. Nice to see a nice one being appreciated. Thanks for sharing!

It's too bad AMC didn't/doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I grew up with AMC's designs and always liked them.

I think a lot of guys have a soft spot for AMC's. Your Gremlin is very nice indeed. I have a friend who's dream is to stuff a 401 into a Pacer!

My buddy has a all original 71 Gremlin x thats orange/yellow with black stripes and it is a time capsule. We went to the WoodWard cruise last year and i never had so much fun with people giving thumbs up and taking pictures. The car has air and it was nice to cruise 2 1/2 hours in the heat.

I always thought the Gremlins were neat and still do! I also absolutely LOVED Javelins and Rebel SST's. And how 'bout the Rebel Machine eh fellas? With it's funky colour combinations. About the
only AMC cars I never really cared for were the Matador & Pacer. But of course there's still some of them kickin' around because SOMEBODY loved them enough to keep them going after all these years and that's what it's all about.
