I have a 86 Pontiac 2+2 Aerocoupe that needs 4 grey plastic covers that cover the door strap pull and cover the philips head screws on each side of the door pull strap, see inclosed pic. Also the black nylon nut that holds the headlight switch in place and dash cover to the dash. Gary 1-519 539 7533 . Gary phone 519 539 7533 Woodstock
I just read somewhere that there were 50 1986 Pontiac 2+2 Aerocoupes built in the St. Therese Quebec plant, could this be one of those cars? Officially approx. 100 of these cars where sold in Canada, although my gut feeling tells me there may have been more, for a while there were quite a few around.
Hi Jonno, Actually GM only produced the Pontiac Aerocoupe in 1986 and all were built in the St. Therese Quebec plant of the Aerocoupes made approx. 1125 were exported to the US and another 125 stayed in Canada, total1250. These number are approx but I do have the exact numbers somewhere in my folder, but these numbers are very very close to the actual cars made. All the Aerocoupe's were made identical same colour and fully loaded, apparently according to the 86 Aerocoupe forms some dealers made some modes like power seats although this is also disputed.... My 86 is race prepared or closer to the NASCAR look it has a 350 and a T-5. Is it pure stock you be the judge all Aerocoupe's were Grand Prix coupe's made in St. Therese send out to an aftermarket shop similar to "Yenko" for the trunk and rear window modifications what else was done in these shops is your guess. Is a "Yenko" Camaro a stock Camaro modifided by Yenko arguably of course it is.... but it's also not factory stock. Thanks again for your thoughts. Gary
Welcome Do you have any of the old covers, they usually have a number stamped on the back, I was looking them up today and maybe found 2 but I need that number if possible and also if you want to private email me the serial number I can do some serious looking.
Gary, I did not realize that the entire 1986 2+2 production run was done out of the Ste-Therese plant in Quebec. Thanks for straightening me out on that.
'64 Parisienne CS "barn find" - last on the road in '86 ... Owner Protection Plan booklet, original paint, original near-mint aqua interior, original aqua GM floor mats, original 283, factory posi, and original rust.
Hi Jonno, Actually it was very simple as GM made "G-body" Chevelle's for Iraq, remember the Iraqie taxie's circa 1978 they where made as four door, three speeds standards, with a/c. As well some early 78-80 El Camino's had standards in them. I found the pedals which were mechanical but installed a hydralic clutch system, flywheel, bellhousing&clutch etc from a 86 Camaro. I tried to keep the change over as much 1986 as possible car A friend of mine had a million driveshafts in his barn and can you believe it I found one the exact lenght no need to cut and balance not only that it was free. The tranny was used but suppose to be in good shape and as it turned out needed rebuilding I started driving the car this June and I new the NWC "Non World Class" T-5 was not long for this world at least in this set up. Last week I just finished installing a 1988 WC T-5 and Centre Force clutch so I am no long an 86 sorta stock car (I know the car puritains won't agree with sorta) or as I like to say a race ready car..... or as it should have been built from the factory. The car would come under the groupe of "Pro Touring". I will try and take some pictures of the car tomorrow and post them I thank everyone for their interest.
Hi Poncho Master, It could have been me I have two and one I have been trying to sell, it is rusty but not that bad it's certainly in better condition than any car driven in Ontario for the first half of it's life, any person who is handy at body work and "wanted" a 86 Aerocoupe would have found it a steal considering how rare of a car it is. Gary
Thanks for the info on the T-5, Gary. There were a ton of Iraqi Taxi's sold new here in Ottawa in '81, very popular with the 3 speed floor shift and they all had air conditioning and heavy duty cooling systems. I think they were under $10,000 new, GM dealers just wanted to get rid of them. One of my wifes friends had a white one. Neat with the dog dish hub caps. Not too many around these days! I couldn't afford one and bought 11 year old Datsun 510 instead in '82. Married with kids!
