Friend's Beaumont Project(s)

Hey all...I am just a newbs...but love this site and hope to own my own Beaumont some day soon (actually working on acquiring one right now...but that is another story).

I have a friend whom I knew for some time has been restoring a 64 2 dr Beaumont Hard Top with original 6 cyl.  He was a friend thru my coaching his grandson, so I never really got over to his place until Saturday night at a mosquito romp in his backyard.

Anyhow, I got to see his car...which is about 75% completed.  I knew he was dropping in a V8, but I was surprised to learn that it was a 327 that he had all kinds of performance upgrades completed.  I asked him where he got the engine and he advised me from his donor vehicle, which he was also using for parts.  I never knew about this car and he explained to me that he had picked it up about 12 years ago...it is a 65 Beaumont 2dr Hard Top!  A local young guy had clipped a telephone pole with it and was going to put it in the stock car races.  My bud thought it would be a great donor vehicle and picked it up for $300!

Anyhow...I guess the point of my whole story is...should my friend not be restoring the 65 and using the 64 as the donor if in fact the 65 is a true 327 V8 original?  I did see the vehicile but it was under a tarp and it was getting darkish.  I guess the passenger side was clipped pretty hard but it was still driveable.

Could his 65 be an L79?

As I mentioned, I was at his yard party, and it was dark and the donor car was under tarps (ouch!).  I will see if I can get him to either take pics of the protecto plates or if it would be ok to go over and get the numbers off both of cars...maybe snap a pic or two as well.

I am a bit wary about how he will feel about this if the car is an L79.
