Sqeegee guy gone wild.

A weird thing happened today with my oldest grandson. He came to a red light on the corner of Higins and main here in winnipeg and one of those sqeegee guys started to cleen his windshield. he told him no thanks several times but he would not listen. The grandson had a freind in the car that started to get a little mad and gave the guy a few F bombs. The sqeegee guy stopped and went to the side of the road and picked up a big stick and prosseded to smash every window on his car and dented every fender. He was so stund by what happened he just froze in his seat. The guy also took some very big swings inside the car and hit him then ran away. There were lots of witness's that were just stund. The police were called and managed to nabb him a few blocks away. Thankfully the grandson came out of it ok with only a few cuts and Bruises. The car not so lucky. I think being and older car might  be a right off.furious.gif   Dam low life's.  Probabaly will be out of jail tomorrow.

Many of these street people are ex-mental health patients that our hospitals can't keep anymore.

I guess in retrospect, what harm was he doing cleaning the window? I suspect that if the boys just let him do his thing everything would have been fine. Very unfortuante incident.

They don't cleen the windows for free here.  They want money. And if you do not pay. Probably the same result. I guess I am still a little upset right now and might see it in a different light tomorrow.

I am not being critical of the boys. It is a sad case for sure. Here in Toronto we have so many homeless people I've just learned that they are usually harmless until bothered, they can't reason, that's why they live on the street. A little chirping does not warrant a tyraid like you describe that's for sure.

Clearly not all there. Logic says the guy would have no business touching the car. Unfortunately, it sounds like this fella was out of logic. Unfortunate situation for all. Glad the boys weren't seriously hurt...

After living 25 years in downtown Toronto, and dealing with panhandlers, squeegees, drug addicts, alcoholics etc. on a daily basis, I never had an incident. I was always respectful to them. A simple "sorry guy, I have no money" with a shrug and out-stretched empty hands always did the trick. Once in while, if the mood/situation struck me, I'd flip the person some change.
As said, some of these street people have mental problems, drug/alcohol  problems, some just have a lot of hate and anger towards the world. They have nothing to lose.
Sometimes it only takes a little tweak to set them off.
It doesn't excuse the squeegee for the extent of damage that he inflicted ... it was over the top!
Thankfully, your grandson and his friend weren't badly hurt, but your grandson's friend handled the situation badly ... his actons/words lit the fuse.

Canada's mental Act needs to be relooked at, they have cut back so much taht the hospitals turn them back out on the street within hours of being admitted. I know this 1st. hand as we have a family member that suffering with this, Judges have certain requirements to place someone in a mental ward,& if that person meets the "minimal" requirement of staying out, that's what happens due to lack of funding. It's a SAD situation, as the minimum, is still way out in left field & these people NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad nobody was seriously hurt.  Squeegee dude is quite lucky he didnt have his meltdown on someone who would have reacted differently.  Who knows how I would have reacted, but i expect he'd have a new rectum to store his squeegee in, and could use his bucket to carry his teeth in.  Seriously, this man, sick or not, may have not stopped at damaging the car, and it may not be wise to wait and see what his plans are. Glad to hear your boys are ok, I bet they are angry, to say the least.

I feel sorry for anyone who has been failed by the mental health system, and  there are lots, but  if I can stop one from commiting a violent crime against me or my family, I expect the majority of people will.  Also, there are some that are just lazy, drug induced, anti-establishment punks. (sounds like my own youth headbang.gif

I don't think this is a one time thing for this guy. When you have a beat stick nearby...your planning on using it. Maybe people just went thru the red light when they see this moron coming after them.

I'm glad your grandson and friend our ok

here in B.C. we used to have  Mental Hospital called riverview. It was quite large and for the most part, well run.Ever since they closed it down,we have had the same problems. When it was open, the cops would pick up heroin addicts and such and admit them for 3 day 'observation' periods to dry out or detox. How many came out of there and got thier sh#t together after forced detox I do not know. But  more than do now for sure. It may seem like warehousing to some people,BUT sometimes society"s needs outwiegh the individuals needs.2 cents, spend em where you want.
