A new addition - updated pics

Just got back from Cambridge Ontario yesterday and drove the 67 Beaumont home with me. It goes way beyond my expectations. I'll post the story and details once I've slept.
To all the city dwellers I salute you. I grew up in Montreal, but could not hack to it now.  Traffic to me is having 2 or 3 cars ahead of me at a red light. Not saying this because I live here, but New Bruswick has the best highways from Ontario east hands down. 110 speed limits, no construction, little traffic. As for the other 2 provinces I went through...I wont be back in my cars anytime soon.

The Beaumont is like new inside/underside too. I'll post pics soon once my personal touches are added. I pretty much like it as is, even the rallies. The man I bought it from (George) has an amazing indoor car collection.  Every car he has is in mint condition.  I have a lot to say and share about the Beaumont if anyone is interested, and as soon as I rest, I'' enjoy doing it. It came with lots of docs and parts, protecto-plate, build sheet etc..

Awesome pics Stone! I am really happy for you and your new purchase. Sure sounds like this was a better choice than the unfinished goat. I'm sure all of us who have been following your story of this purchase are looking forward to hearing more about the trip and the car. thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

Congrats on the new ride. I'm partial to GTO's, but I think you made the best move taking the Beaumont. It's a much nicer car for the money and you could drive it home.

Thank you for all the congratulations. I would likely not have found this car if not for CP. Thank You! I'm sure we've all gone to see cars only to find that it has been overstated, and some obvious flaws were not mentioned. Well, this was the complete opposite.  His ad never mentioned several selling points, I think the fact that he lives in a mansion with garages full of high-end cars, and has a busy car service business, helped. This car was cherished from the day it was bought and it shows. I found the seller to be very truthful, and knowledgable.

The Car - This car has the document package from George at GM, it has the original build sheet, manual,  protecto-plate, receipt and more. I will post pics of the docs soon. It was originally a 283 2sp powerglide. It now has 454 with Muncie 4sp.  The engine and transmission are fresh out of performance rebuild. The paint is from last year. It is slightly darker than the original Marina Blue. The car came with 5 rallies, 5 cragars, and 4 centerlines, all with new BFG's. The chrome is excellent. The front seats were recovered with new buns, the rest is original. The chrome around the guages show a little wear, and the knob bezels have a little wear. The trunk(trunk had 2 access holes cut and patched) and underside is unbelievable clean. Original stickers still in the trunk. It has new MSD ignition, disk brakes conversion in the front. All new suspension with air in the back. (he tells me that the big block coils will relax a little in the front.)  I dont have much planned for it except to enjoy it and try not to worry about scratching it. I hope to put rocker moulding on, add some tunes, (original am radio is connected and working) and probably change mufflers.  The pics in the grass dont capture the stance of the car, I'll post more soon too. I have a lot to learn about this car, but am already enjoying the availability of parts compared to my Grande Parisienne. The car has never had any rust, and was bought in London Ontario, and never left. I bought the car from George who bought it from the original owner last year. The body appears perfect, inside and out. It starts with just a touch of the key, and oozes power. It came with boxes of parts, T3 lamps etc...  I will post more details as I remember or uncover them. Feel free to ask anything. Its great to share my excitement with people who appreciate these cars. I was at a car show Sat, and overheard a teenage girl as her mother "why are all these people here to look at each others cars?" Mom, had no answer.

The Trip -

I left Wednesday right after work. Bad move to work a full day before a 1600km trip. My brother drove the first 10 hours, and I was supposed to be sleeping, but couldnt. My brother agreed to help, but is somewhat ocd with efficiency. I prefer efficiency also, but comfort has to be a factor as well. All meals had to be on the move, and pee on the side of the road.  I needed his help so I tried my best to meet his needs. We were too efficient, and arrived in Cambride at dawn, and had to wait 2 hours for George to get to work. We were dead tired, but spent several hours looking and driving the car. Eventually we finished all the business and hoped to get approx 1/3 of the way back before getting a room. Traffic was bad, the construction was bad in Ontario, and horrible in Quebec. I guess it has to be done.  We stopped to get some food once we were out of town, I decided to top up both cars to see how bad the 454 would be on gas. The neon took $9 and the Beaumont took $32 for the same distance. This is when the fun began, we were both halucinating at this point, from lack of sleep, and I was trying to explain that this is dangerous and I dont want to wreck the Beaumont. He convinced my to stick to our original plan to make it to Cornwall.  He said that he would leave me there if I stopped.  So, back on the highway in the heat of the day, after pulling an all nighter, and starting to get mad. I decided to hire him at this point to help me. I figured that if I was paying him, then what he wanted to see happen, wouldnt matter. I paid him on the spot, and asked him to follow me home, and stop when I stop.  I wasnt sure I'd make it to Cornwall, I was slapping my face, yelling, and whatever else I could think of to prevent those little 'zone outs' that kept happening. We finally pulled into Cornwall around 6 pm. I was anxious to get rested, and rest the car.  Well I didnt realize that big bro was steaming mad for the last 2 hour stretch behind me, and I still dont know exactly what for. Anyway, he said "I'm not staying here, its a waste of money, see you at home".  He took off with all the tools, cell phone, gps etc.  I checked into the room, and was bewildered and mad.  I went back to the front desk, asked for a refund, and got back on the road to pull another all nighter.  I drank red-bull for the first time. It actually helped me for about 5 hours, but it just got crazier after that.  I had to break up the last 6 or 7 hours into 15 minute segments of driving, and 5 minutes of smoking cigarettes. I would definitely handle the entire situation differently in the future.  The last gas stop I made is about and hour from here, full service.  I didnt realize that they didnt put my gas cap back on until the next evening when I was out to clean the car, I was just rumbing along when an older mustang stomped on it behind me to catch up. I decided that he wasnt going to catch up. He finally caught up when I had to make a uturn at a dead end. He was just trying to tell me that I was pouring gas out the back. The more I stepped on it, the more that came out. A little embarassing.  I had guessed that big bro would get home 2 hours before me, but when I got there, there was no neon. He showed up 6 hours after me. He slept in the neon at a rest area in Quebec.  Sorry to ramble so long, and it sounds more like sibling rivalry than a car road trip. He hasnt spoke one word to me in the 4 days since.  I am absolutely thrilled with the purchase. I am anxious to hear responses good or bad, to the upcoming detail pics. The 1967 Beaumont has special meaning to me, I am extremly happy to get what I wanted.  I have never owned a vehicle that looks like this one underneath. Its a whole new level for me, it really exceeded what I was expecting. Pic coming tonight or tomorrow.

Great story and congratulations on the purchase. I have been following this story since your quest began and am happy that you did find a 67 Beaumont.
Any help you need with your car should be no problem. There is a lot of collective Beaumont knowledge on this site.

Again, congratulations the car looks awesome!

"Looks great and looking forward on your travel story!! (still partial to the Grande more though! lol)"

I still have a soft spot for the Grande.  I kinda see the Grande as the wife and the Beaumont as the kinky mistress.  I wont be able to light a fire in my garage with both cars in there, it would bubble the paint for sure, the stove touches the bumper of the Beaumont and leaves 1/4" to spare at the front.  The Grande will have to be sold or stored. I am going to list it soon and see what happens. I would love to see it go to a member here.

I told the seller of the GTO that I would continue to search and shop, and he could contact me when he is over his illness. He never gave me the vin, and cancelled 24hrs prior to the sale. He also mentioned that the price of 23 was a moment of weakness, he couldnt let it go for less than 25.  Too many red flags for me to continue to pursue it. I bet he gets what hes asking, but he may have to finish it first.

Great story and very glad you are here to tell it. It sounds like you made a very good choice of cars. You are already enjoying it and if you would have bought the GTO....work, and more work!

Congrats on the purchase!  Regarding your trip home... ouch!  I'm sure you won't forget that one for a long time!  Glad you made it back OK.  I've been that tired driving before and it's downright scary when you realize that you don't remember large segments of your trip.  I hope to never do that again.

The Beaumont looks awesome!  Personally I'm glad that you got it vs the GTO clone as I think the Beau is a much cooler car, given its Canadian-ness and all!

I'm really really glad that it all worked out for you!
