Well, after a sweltering week of low to mid 30's with the humidex hanging around 40, we get to welcome "Earl" saturday morning. It's been downgraded to Cat1, and will likely be a Tropical storm by the time it gets to us, but it's still a very WIDE storm system, with strong winds extending well out from the center. My only real concern is for all the big trees in my yard, with all the leaves still on them, they may well take a beating. I'll send a few updates as the storm hits and progresses, as long as the power stays on.

I hear you Barry. We had the same heat here (which is unusual on our Island). At least there was still a (warm) breeze. Looks like we'll miss a day of our long weekend (at the very least) with 100 km hr. + winds and lots of rain. I have to stock up on gas tonight for the generator. Good luck with the power staying on and your trees!

With a humidex of 40 °C this week, it's been toasty for sure. Hard to sleep at night without air conditioning these days. It was 31°C in the house last night with the outside temp at 26 around 10PM.
Now with Earl arriving tomorrow we all have to hope for the best. Having experienced a direct hit from Juan a few years back, I know what we could be in for, but there is still some uncertainty about the track and the severity of the storm. One thing about the heat wave and higher than normal water temperatures is that it won't take the steam out of the storm like it does when it's cooler.
Right now it's predicted to graze the western tip of NS with winds about 120 km/h and then head up the Bay of Fundy. I hope the damage is not too bad for everybody, with all the storm surge, flooding and wind damage. I'm fearing that a lot of the crop will be lost in the Annapolis Valley, which is even more of a shame as the crop is really good this year due to a hot, dry summer.
Well, after a sweltering week of low to mid 30's with the humidex hanging around 40,
We just back from N.B. Hottest I ever saw there... My mother(age 80) "let us" run a fan in the bedroom, so I got it cooled "down " to 82 degrees from 86... Daytime was 94 degrees in her apartment. Glad to get the Hexx out of there, and get home to A/C
Well, it's the calm before the storm here ... totally peaceful. Crickets chirping! Got the truck filled, got (4) 20L jerry cans filled for the generator, got all my water jugs filled, got all the projectiles off the lawn, now I'm going to watch some CFL, and have a few frosty rockets! We can never be too prepared, we've been through two (5) day power outtages here (in Winter). One saving grace is that I live in the middle of the Island, on the north shore, and Earl, the storm is coming from the south. All the best to all the Maritimers on here!

I'm sitting here in the direct path of "Earl" and the wind is just starting to pick up.Located just west of Digby. It does not look like Saturday will be kind to the Wharf Rat Rally. Lots of visiting bikers in town.
Plenty of AC here Todd, there's just more window units than central, I'd say.
Just to be clear, anything off the coast ( and there's a lot off the coast!) gets lots of heat and defnitely lots of humidity, maybe not Southern Ontario type of stuff, but it's plenty warm here in the summer.

It's raining and blowing pretty good here. Lots of movement in the trees but none down at this time. A lot of leaves being stripped off by the wind though.

Keep us posted on the weather, Parents are flying into PEI today, Hopefully things stay calm for them. They'll be in Souris area.
It's been here for about an hour. Like Barry says hard driving rain and a fair amount of wind, but not overwhelming. I've seen worse. It supposed to stick around until 7 ish tonight and it's 2:00 now. No satillite T.V. I hope the power stays on.
It's one way to clear all the wormy apples off our trees, next time I mow the lawn I'll make apple sauce.
Rick, I'm not not sure about flights coming to and from the Island (you can get that info. on the Charlottetown Airport site).

Glad everyone in the NE got though it all w/ no major problems. I confess I never thought hurricanes came way up your way, I thought they were a Southern USA phenomenon only, eh?
