Suburban needed an e test to get licesnced for another two years here in Toronto. Our check engine light has been coming on and off for at least two years, scanner says 0420 which is inefficient catalyst = bad cats. I ignore it, each time it come on I just reset it and keep truckin.
I was worried but I drove it around for 45 minutes and pulled in the test facilty. After the test the tech says you better buy a lotto, the Hydrocarbon limit at idle is 71 and you are at 70. I said the big word PASS on the sheet is all I care about. $40 for that.
Next stop license office. Sir you have not paid the City of Toronto personal vehicle tax for three years is what I am told. Hmmm not paid, why did no one send me a bill and how did I avoid that. Well you renewed in august 2008 for two years and the tax came into effect in September 2008.
Sir there are two outstanding parking fines , one for $55 and one for $40, ya nothing cheap about Miller town. Your enewal grand total is $353 !!!!! Add the $40 e test and that's just a tick under $400 !!!
Ray, did they charge you for the back fees for Miller's Rip Off. I would think if you renewed b-4 that came into effect you would just have to pay from this lic. on?? [or maybe not] forgot your in the Tax & spend city!!!!!

If the $60 went into the roads that would be fine but Toronto roads are like a third world nation now. Miller funnels that tax into social welfare programs for targeted communities, classic rob from the rich and give to the poor mentality.

I just checked on line and it looks like the 5.7 Vortec and 5,7 LT-1 use the same part numbers.
Where I live in Ontario there is no e-testing. We have no tax for having a car. If we had no car we would have no way to get to a job and therefore pay no income tax.

As far as e-testing goes it extends across southern Ontario from Windsor to Ottawa, the area of the province with the highest population density and the greatest number of vehicles. Hmmm... greatest density + greatest number of cars = GREATEST TAX GRAB.

it would be great if we could get a dealer plate. I can only drive one of them at a time. My oldest brothers birthday is Oct. 15th. Under the old laws he could plate his summer cars in the spring and pay only half year. Mine is in June so I had to pay for the full year. They changed that now so it doesn`t matter when you renew, you pay full pop. He lives in Parry Hoot now. I think they only pay $25 up there and no E tests
Along the same lines... Do any of you guys know when the Ministry of Transportation stopped E-tests on pre 1987 vehicles only? I thought that once a vehicle reached the twenty year mark, it was now e-test exempt (which would now be 1990 and older...). When did all of this change? As for you members that are E-test exempt, consider yourself lucky. This crazy tax grab is taking some pretty "decent" older vehicles off the road. Remember when McGuinty was going to get rid of this fraud? Then he found out just how much $$$ it was making...
And I thought Switzerland was bad. I don't remember all these taxes in On. when i moved from Quebec I just had to do a technical inspection of my cars and change the licence plates. Wow it has changed in 10 years!
