Quote from an actual online obituary from Georgia

I read the whole thing but just copied this out of it. Boy, they must really hate their president.

"The family respectfully asked in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to the campaign of whoever is running against President Barack Obama in 2012."

During a time of mourning they come up with that? Sad. Very sad...

If the deceased was a real political hack or (more likely) had a wicked sense of humour, an obit like this is completely appropriate.  I once did a superman funeral and a buddy of mine used runway signal lights to bring a casket down the aisle...guy was a pilot...family loved it.  I'm sure some people were shocked, but F it if you can't take a joke.  smile

There is nothing necessarily wrong about humour at a funeral, but politics is sometimes out of bounds. It's definitely over the top.

Do not get me started on Obama (after all, this is a family-appropriate place, eh?), except to say that I can totally understand the family's wishes. And I do not think I (or that family) are part of the lunatic fringe ...

Oh no!  Politics!  I read that Obama is crippled by the over the top beaurocractic structure in Washington that's been allowed to grow and fester unchecked since the cold war.  FDR had 6 presidential assistants; Truman 12; Obama 100+  -- all established positions that aren't easily turfed.  Add on the $3.5 billion spent by lobbyists last year to promote competing and opposite interests and the trivialization of news reporting (Obama can't act fast enough for anybody) and presto:  Ancient Rome.  JFK wouldn't stand a chance in today's political atomosphere.  Right...he didn't last in the sixties.  Never mind.twocents.gif

Good point.  I assumed that the deceased had no say in this, but who knows...maybe this was part of his final wish.  (If it wasn't though...)

Sad thing is the deceased probably voted for good old "dubu" twice. I assume he would be ok with this request.
