Tiny's Latest Derby Car

I stopped by Tiny's shop today to see his latest derby car. There's a large derby in Simcoe on Monday and there's large purse to be won. Jeff uses Crown Victoria's as they are considered one of the toughest cars. The only weak link- the engine gets yanked and Chevy power is installed in it's place. The rear end remains Ford, however not the stock Crown Vic rear end. A stout 9" with 5.13 gears is installed. I'm amazed at the engineering Jeff puts into his cars to give them a competitive advantage. Of course all the mods are legal wink

The front bumper used to be on an early 70's Buick. It's been folded and worked  to the point that I don't think anything can bend it!

The nuts welded to the bumper aren't for show. Wire is wrapped between it and the rad support. It's all designed to fold a certain way when hit so that nothing vital gets damaged.

Look closely at this shot. Check out the reinforced steel on the side of the car as well as the roll bar. It's more than a roll bar though. It makes the car extremely rigid. The tires have tubes to protect againts blowouts. With the 5.13 gears and Vortec power, this car really hauls!

The interior is all business. The trans is specially modified for derby racing and has a specific shift pattern.

This car will actually be driven by Jeff's wife, Jan. Jeff is working hard on getting his own car ready for Monday night.

Hey Tiny, First of all ... good luck!
I'm just wondering if there is a website with the rules/regulations posted for your derby league? I saw on a TV show (Trucks), that in a lot of cases you are not allowed to add metal to certain areas of the vehicle ... you can creatively "reconfigure" the existing metal to add strength. Is that true in your league?

Tiny likely wont be on her until after the Derby monday. There are rules and his car will have to pass tech inspection before being allowed to run.

i entered the local demo for the first time this year, it was a blast but it was alot of work and i didn't even really do a lot to it... the payoff was good though, walked out with 2000 bucks lol... it's something everyone should try at least once....i got to pull the 318 904 out of this car and drop it into a 74 newport i;m gonna run next year.....

I just thought id update well we sucked!LOL Blew up both 9'rear ends to much power I guess for a mini spool now I need to get of my wallet and buy full race spools. On the bright side we have 2 really well built cars for next year. Our videos can be veiwed on you tube our channel is teamtinys fun to watch a 450+hp derby car we didnt last long at all Jan is the #1970 car an im #33. I still walked away with mu head held high after all the positive reaction to the engine I built, lot of talk in the pits how I must have payed big buck for it etc, good feeling to know I built it with parts I had around the shop minus the intake, cam, and carb. Next year I want to build a 650+hp LS1 6.0L they havent seen nothing yet!LOL

Hey guys keep your eyes out for a Gen2 camaro shell for us I have a Idea also, im looking for 73-76 Monte bumpers, 72-77 newyorker pointy bunmpers, any heay duty bumpers you can find, also im looking for a LS1 6.0L, we are going to even get more into next year Jan is in talks with a couple of Major sponsor! we are taking the derby cars to the next level I hope it works out for her she is putting alot of time and effort into her profesional derby driving carrer!LOL We had a great year my billy bash car is going to be a really cool old Lincoln and I want to build a pro mod 1980 camaro I know it souds crazy but they are great and no one runs them. the front of a camaro is tough I want to make it look like the bandit me and Jan are going to dress like the bandit and Sally feilds,LOL
