Pontiac Arrow: Found rotting away

Howdy,
Found this car today, think it's around a 1940. Car appears to be in pretty good shape. Pontiac Arrow 4 dr sedan, current resting place is just down the road. If anybody is interested I could look into it a bit further.

Amazing find!!!! I cant believe that those grill bars look undamaged, not a bend or dent in sight. And the bodywork looks very rot free to. Any idea how long its stood out in the open??

It's a very old homestead site so it's been there a while. The body is in very good shape.

Back then, they used solid metal, not the tin foil alloys they use today ... and no road salt.

Hi There
Say Do you think the frame would be any good or rotted through? Out at my
Brother's farm in the back 40 bone yard there's a Pontiac Coupe missing the
frame. I believe it's the same year. Always thought it would make an awesome
rod someday - Nice body style.

Is this car still around? I am looking for the front grilles, radiator, park light lenses, dash, gas tank that I know of at this point.

Hello Grant,

The car is still sitting in the same place. I'm not sure who owns the land the car sits on but it's just a few miles from me. What part of the country are you located in ?

James,

I may be interested in the steering wheel. Do you have a better picture of it? The 40 Pontiac wheel I would like is a rim blow with two horizontal spokes and then has one set of SS banjo strings.

Welcome Grant. Are you building a '40 Pontiac? Is it a Regina built car? Have any pictures? I have a '41 Coupe as a future project. And James may live a little off the beaten path but definately not in USA.

Don't mean to sidetrack this post but James, haven't seen you on here for a while. How's the Acadian coming along? Any progress pictures? For a different post of coarse. Again sorry to sidetrack.

Hi Grant,

Just pullin yer leg a bit I live an hour north of Edmonton, Athabasca country. If I manage to track down the owner of the car I'll let you know right chicken louie.

We go out to North Battleford once in a while so I could possibly deliver the parts to there.  Hey John...as a matter of fact I have started working on some of the body

panels for the 66 Acadian, when I get a bit more done I'll start a build tread. I bought some repro Canso emblems off e-bay ,very nice. We should do coffee sometime.

Crazy J........a proud Canadian....EH !!!!

I am a restorer type of guy...I have a 1928 Model A that I restored fromt the ground up.  I also own a 1954 Ford Customline that I inherited from a great Aunt.  It is all original with 16,000 miles. In addition to this I have two 72 Porsche 914's.  One I totalled a kept as a parts car, the other has a number of performance items done to it but needs some body work.  I am in the process of working on a 1923 Model T touring.  This has been side tracked as I renovated our house.  The 1940 Pontiac I have had stored for about 10 years.  I have a real burning desire to get at this one.  I decided that I had better start hunting down the parts I am going to need, so that when the time comes I will have them at hand.

I had to make a rush trip to Lloydminster yesterday, hence the delay in response.

Regarding the front grilles....these grilles are made of what I think is pot metal.  With age, they are ever so fragile.  The ones I have are still in place on the car, but I know that when I take them out they will be in a number of pieces, so I am hoping to find some good, sound ones.  The original question I had posed was about interchangeability with the US models...seems like there is more down there.

The lighting is not good in my shed but I will try and take some pictures of the car.  The data plate info is:

Model No 22-278

Serial No. 0222705544

Engiine No. 2782745

Body Serial No 55

Trim 321

Paint 46

If any of you can interpret this, I would like to confirm that this is in fact a Regina Production car.  I have an original sales brochure that I picked up at a swap meet, as well as the shop manual.   There are lots of shop manuals around for the L head engines but not that plentiful for the overhead valve engine. Anyway, from all this I have determined that it is a Pontiac Arrow Business Coupe.

Any help would be appreciated.  I am in Edmonton from time to time.  If you are restoring one of these tell me what you need, as I may have gathered something you need.

Grant

According to your serial number it is not a Regina built car. Regina built have an "8" after the model numbers. Your's has a "0".   02227 0 5544 . There is a thread here with some info about Regina built cars. I will try and find it for you.

I found the thread but I don't know how to link it. It is called "Is this Coupe a '41?"

Crazyj,

Here are a couple of pictures of my car I took last night.  The forum seems limited, and slow, so if you send me your email address I can send you a few more.
