Toronto Voter's Rant

I've been out of the loop for a couple of days so if this has been raised already, then ignore:

What the h*** 's this thing I heard on the radio that officials seriously want to float the idea of extending voter privileges to non citizens with resident's status.  'scuse me but citizenship is the last shred that binds us together and if that's taken away than we are nothing more than a bunch of renters on a patch of land that means nothing.

If you wern't born here you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Period. Switzerland has always been this way. Not a heck of alot of problems with political correctness being used to sway policies over there. My 2 cent's though.

If one begins to remove the foundation blocks from his house one by one,, eventually the house collapses.

I don't know how to sate this in any simpler terms.

Not sure if I agree that you must be born here to be able to vote. If you come here and go through the process and become a citizen, you should have the right to vote. Some people have worked here their entire lives, but immigrated at an early age. What's the point of becoming a citizen if you can't even vote? But I agree that non citizens should not be allowed to vote.

Think this is BAD, check out bill C428 the Feds are trying to get in[ at least the Brampton MP & Bob Rae are supporting it] As of now you have to live in Canada 10 yrs to collect Old age pension, these "Clowns" want to reduce it to 3 yrs!!! That means an "Imigrant" can come here at age 62 & collect the pension at 65 & not work or contribute to the fund at all!!! GO FIGURE!!! If that ain't going for the imigrant vote I'll eat my TWO FOURS

Not able to vote if you were not born here would make it a little awkward in my family. Me and my older sister born in England, one sister born in Picton Ontario one brother born in Winnipeg one sister born in Germany. Only two would be able to vote.  Military families would be a little screwed up.

Sad part is, that everyone born and raised here in Canada aren't even guaranteed the money will
even BE THERE come their time to retire! This has been in and out of the news over the years that by the time the Baby Boomers come of age, they're just may not be anything left to give from
the government. Did they not take money from that fund years back and invest it in something else (stock market perhaps?) and it tanked and the money invested was lost? Hence them making
the statements I've already listed above?

It would stop this kind of nonsence. As I said, Switzerland has always been like this, none of these problems. If that is the rule, thats the rule. No way to argue it. The Liberal party would then be unable to undermine the Canadian public. We are already under tremendous financial strain as it is. If you want to bring your elderly relatives here, no problem, but you should have to be financially responsible for them. I want to be able to retire one day as I've been working sence I was 12-13 years old. Why should I have no chance to enjoy my retirement because the $$$ is being given to someone that never financially contributed to the pension plan? Sorry if it offends some of you, but that's how I feel. Tired of people comming over here and demanding change, money, etc... If you didn't contribute, you're not elligable. PERIOD!

I have no problem with people coming to Canada if they are willing to pull their weight.

You know, I believe that a lot of new immigrants do pull their weight. It is just that some politicians are falling over themselves to endear themselves to new Canadians in order to capture those votes (and there are a lot of potential votes given the immigration policy).

The idea of allowing votes for non-citizens is utterly daft, yet I am not surprised at all by this B.S.

Then there is the old "vote buying" where you are promised all sorts of goodies. People are being bribed with their own money!

I think it is overdue for me to get a copy of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Do I dare say anything bad against Trudeau? I should!

Don't get me started about Miller...

Trudeau was a member of the Canadian communist party in the early 60's. Then he got elected P.M? Someone should have shot the puke in 67.

now if we could just get the polititians to read this thread we "might " stand a chance to have them listen to the people, & not just give "lip" service & go ahead & do the opposite!!!!!!!!!
