Hi, new guy on the block. 70 2+2 forgotten for 35 years.

smileP1011383.JPGP1011385.JPGP1011384.JPGP1011390.JPGP1011389.JPGP1011388.JPGHi, As a kid growing up in the early 70's, This was a car that I remembered being driven around the rural towns of Saskatchewan where I grew up. . I would be lying if I said it was gently driven by a little old lady.  It was only in the area for a very short time as the engine found it needed a rest. I thought it was sold and long gone.

Foward 35 years, events happened that I came across it sitting deeply buried in a bush and scrap pile. knowing what it was, a price was quickly established and paid.  It is in tough shape but nothing that I can't repair.   Posting some pics, Let me know what you think.

Past and present cars that I have owned

1973 GTO Colanade ht 400 3 speed manual ( this was a ultra rare car, wrecked bad and long gone).
1973 GTO sport ht 455ho auto
1973 GTO Colanade ht 400 4 spd.
1971 Impala custom BB
1972 Impala custom BB
1972 Belair 2dr htp 350 4bbl (very rare canadian only) work in progress.
1977 Trans Am WS6 package
1980 AMC AMX 304 5spd ( a wild little car)
1974 Cuda 360 auto ( had this for 32 years)

Welcome. Looks like you've had some neet rides from the past. Don't hesitate to post some of those cars as well. Everybody shows interest in non-Poncho stuff too.

You'll find quite a few very good 2 plus 2 contacts here if you require advise and/or parts.

Carefull, this site is addictive, but cheaper than slot machines.

Nice find, if that was in ontario all you would have found was a pile of rust.

I'm actually amazed on how many 70 2+2's are still kicking around.  I'm going by memory, but considering they only made 274 convertibles and 1336 hardtops, there are sitll quite a few around 40 years later.   300 hp 350 4bbl engines seem to be vast the majority, but I've seen a few 350 2bbl's, a few 265 hp 400 2bbl's (including one I owned), and a handful of 345 & 390 hp 454's.

I see the 350V fender emblem, is it a 2bbl or 4bbl?   Turbo 350 or 400?  (I've seen all sorts of combinations).  Midyear change was to go from throttle linkage to throttle cable, and if turbo 400 the kickdown switch then moved from the carb to under the dash.

Hi there,

I haven't got much info off the car yet, it's still in the bush behind a pile of scrap. I spent the last 2 visits to the car pulling wheels and unsticking brakes so that it can be pulled out.  Man,  35 years of sitting on the ground sure does damage to rims.  But they are all covered with tires and are holding the car up now.   Found 3 of the center caps and a couple of trim rings in and around the car, looks better already with the wheels covered on one side. Finally got the hood opened partway, rusted shut and one hinge missing?(in the trunk). Quickly took  the crud off the engine block and found a non numbers matching, 2 BBL small block. I suspect that it originaly had the 300 horse 350 as the factory duals are still there.  Havent looked under the car that close to see whats in it for a tranny. Heck, I havent even looked at what the mileage was on the odometer.  From what I recall back in the day, it was a low mileage car that the fellow abused almost to the point of being criminal..

Have no data plate info yet as the entire engine bay is full of rabbit and porcupine dung. ( been a good winter shelter for the local varmits---- in, under, ontop of the car.  What a mess)   Will keep you guys updated as progress is made.

P.S. Does anyone know where I can find a pair of strato buckets for the car as these were liberated many years ago.

Your wondering whats around the 70.  There is a 69 parisienne 4 door hdtp, been rolled hard, not alot of useful parts left on it, some front end pieces, didn't look at the grills that close they may still be okay, there may be other stuff that someone may need,  it has a tilt wheel that will be going into the 70. There is also a 67 grand parisienne 4 door hdtp and a 4 door 67 strato chief, the grand prix still has the drive train in it, I think it had a 283, the rest of it is tough.    There is also a 59 pontiac in there missing the complete rear clip and I know that there is a another late 40s or 50s vintage car farther in the bush, it too may be a pontiac or chevy? but I didn't go in that far.

If someone is interested in any particular parts, let me know and I'll look for them on my next visit, The fellow that has the property is an old friend/neighbour and he mentioned that he is going to have a scrap dealer come in and haul the stuff in the bush away propably in the spring.

Hi,

like your rag.  Looks like you have the body work and welding mostly complete, nice job.

Just wondering if you used a 69/70 chevy trunk pan. Its been awhile since I have worked on a 70s pontiac and as I remember most of the chevy parts work on the ponto short of the outter panels.

agreed  to above

everything for the floor and down i used was for a 70 impala. trunk floor is the only thing that is a wee bit different. back section is longer after the kick up but usable. i just cut the longer section off to match the original. golden leaf is who i used for panels and cross braces

golden leaf

Hi ponco master

I'm located in Indian Head, cars are about 20 minutes away from here, if interested let me know.  There may be some stuff you can use.  All these cars were driven hard and put away hurt really bad in the early to mid 70's.
