My right wiper is vacuum motorised, the left new electrical. I'd like to know why. How to acced to the auxilliary drive where are the drums and transmission cables?
Pierre, can you show a picture of wiper mtr[motor] The stock set up is 1 wiper mtr. in centre of firewall & cables drive each wiper spindles or transmissions [whatever you want to call them] I've never heard of one vacuum & the pther electric unless the cables broke on 1 side & they made up something to work???? pete

I believe the 57 is slightly different from the 55-56, but basically the same - Pete is correct, one motor in the center connected by cables to the individual wiper 'transmissions' - you do not have to remove dash, howeve you will have to get down on the floor and work above you underneath the dash - look here for information on how the whole thing works:
BTW if your system is troubled, you should consider a switch to the Raingear system like I did - eliminates that miserable vacuum motor as well as those troublesome cables:
